I view organized religion in a very dim light, but am VERY pro-gun. Most leftists are seen as anti-religous people.

I also own two Volvos. Someting else always attributed to leftists.

I am pro-choice and don't care if two guys or two girls want to get married.

Don't lump all conservative people in one basket. Not every "real" conservative is a religious zealot that is pro-gun, anti abortion and drives a Chevrolet. Its simply not true.

Nothing I love more than breaking the stereotype.

Well, since we're busting out resume's .......

I was born and raised in Christian farm country, to Christians. I was raised ultra-conservative. As soon as I was 18 and could get away, I started developing my own standards. I do not follow any political party or party lines, although I vote for certain parties because they appeal to more than others.

I am 100% pro-gun. NRA lifer.
I am neutral on abortion. I love my kids and would never let my own child be aborted. However, I think that the type of people that opt for abortions are the best candidates. Lazy, irresponsible people should not breed. Let them abort. I don't want their kid at school with mine, anyway.
I am pro-sterilization.
I am pro capital punishment. The quicker the better.
I don't care what gays do. I believe in individual freedom as long as it does not harm others. Gays do not bother me. Let them marry.
I am pro-environment.
I am anti-immigration. Not just illegal, but almost all immigration. Time to close the borders and take a head count and see what we are dealing with. Then select who we want here based on their skills. We have enough Mexicans for a life time. They would never again be consdiered.
I do not go to church, as I can barely stand it.

Oh, and I now drive an Audi. Where does that put me, Brickboy?

Where's Barry Goldwater's zombie when you need him? Now THERE was a real Conservative. Anyone who hasn't read "The Conscience of a Conservative" should do so:

http://www.amazon.com/Conscience-Con...dp/0895265400/

Summary: The Constitution very clearly and explicitly spells out exactly which powers fall under the jurisdiction of the Federal government. It also explicitly spells out in the 10th Amendment: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

+1

It's too bad that more people on this board don't realize that.

That is one of the many reasons that I am a huge advocate of the individual states being able to decide how they want to handle contronversial issues.

I think that abortion, gay marriage and capital punishment should all be left up to the states. This way, politicians in the big cities and in DC don't get to decide what is best for rural America.

Thanks for posting that.

The first time I read Goldwater's book (which is a very quick and easy read), I smacked myself on the head with it and said "duh!". It's so clear and obvious yet I'd never read anything on the subject articulated so plainly and so effectively.

I wouldn't vote for a Mormon. LDS is a cult.

Flame away.

Websters Dictionary: a system of religious veneration and devotion directed toward a particular figure or object.

By that definition every religion is a cult, no matter who you believe in or worship.

Bottom line: Become informed.

tgom definitly needs to become informed. A few years ago I may have felt the same way but it was due to ignorance. Over the past few years I have come to know many LDS families and would have to say most are very pro-gun and huge patriots. Also most all of them are extremely active and involved in thier communities.

I wouldn't hold it against a politician if he were Mormon, that said I first did research on LDS after seeing this South Park episode:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_About_Mormons

I figured that Matt and Trey were taking some liberties since no religion could have that many incredibly bizarre elements. Turns out, they were treating the religion with kid gloves.
