What sort of laws should the federal government pass?

As mentioned in my previous threads, I am a strong proponent of state's (and county, and city, and neighborhood) rights. I feel that if a law does not universally apply, it shouldn't be enacted on the federal level.

But what laws SHOULD the federal government pass?

Historically the fed was primarily concerned with interstate laws (taxation and the like) and international laws. (Ditto.) However the bill of rights and subsiquent ammendments also started explicitly stating what the federal government COULDN'T do. I feel this is a good area for law to be passed.

So 1: The federal government should be able to pass laws that restrict its own power. For example, the fed could pass a law stating that it has no place in the private homes of its citizens (unless a crime is occuring.) IE, no bedroom legislation.
2: The federal government should be able to pass laws that aid individuals who move throughout the country from having their rights infringed by so doing. In other words, if two people of the fruity persuasion were to legally marry in New Hampshire, they should still be married if their work takes them to Steers and Queers land. err, Texas. Likewise, if you've earned a concealed carry permit in any state, it should be applicable to any other state, with minimum hassle. This **** about getting your permit in texas, then moving to 'jersey and being told "No yuo!!!" is just that. ****.
3: The federal government should be able to pass laws that protect the best interest of the entire community. In otherwords, things involving national security, the environment, and such far-reaching subjects. The point of this legislation should be primarily to avoid a tragedy of the commons. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tragedy_of_the_commons

Any thoughts? Any other areas the .gov should be legislating?

The Constitution limits Congress to eighteen specific, enumerated, and delegated powers.Any powers not delegated to the federal government are reserved to the states, or to the people. It`s really that simple. The problem we face is Congress has ignored it`s constitutional limits and has given itself a vast array of new powers,as has the executive. Meanwhile the Supreme Court has shirked it`s duty to uphold the Constitution, and the majority of the people are ignorant in the proper workings of our system and history in general. In other words, the system is not working as designed.

My "thoughts" are; if you spent more time studying the original intent of the Constitution, and the Natural Law theory on which it`s based, instead of wasting your energy on useless Marxist drivel such as "tragedy of the commons" the answer to your question "what laws SHOULD the government pass?" would be as Jefferson stated... "self evident." Good luck.
