This DEMOCRAT wants ipod and cell phone use, while crossing the street, banned!

Report: New York State Senator Wants to Ban iPods From Crosswalks

Wednesday, February 07, 2007

ADVERTISEMENTget_a(300,250,"frame1");

Laws on the books try to stop jaywalking, but if one New York state senator gets his way, it will also soon be illegal to bop along to your iPod while crossing the street.

Sen. Carl Kruger will propose a bill that would ban using an iPod — and any other electronic device that is a distraction — while crossing traffic, he told FOX News on Wednesday.

"I think it's necessary if we just look at the statistics that bear out the argument that people while being too into their electronic gadgetry are tuning out the rest of the world. They are becoming a statistical fatality, they are being part of an accident scene. They are basically jeopardizing their well-being as well as the well-being of others around them," Kruger, a Democrat, said.

The bill would levy a $100 fine against those who use iPods, cell phones and BlackBerrys while in a crosswalk in all of New York's major cities. WNBC reported that the ban would only be in effect in Buffalo and New York City.

Click here to read the WNBC-TV report.

Kruger said the bill could be enforced the same way cell phone driving bans are enforced.

"The punitive aspect of the legislation is not as important as raising the bar on the public awareness of the jeopardy that people are putting themselves (in) by using the electronic gadgets," he told FOX News. "We see time and time again people crossing the street text messaging, reading their e-mails, making telephone calls, listening to their iPod, and ridiculous as it may sound, even playing video games, and the net result is a serious public safety issue."

Kruger said he decided to propose the legislation after several pedestrians in his Brooklyn district were killed while using a small electronic device and crossing the street.

"If you want to listen to your iPod, sit down and listen to it," Kruger told WCBS-TV. "You want to walk in the park, enjoy it. You want to jog around a jogging path, all the more power to you, but you should be crossing streets and endangering yourself and the lives of others."

----------------------------------------

If you don't like something....ban it???

Here is a link to this Democrat's website: http://www.nyssenate27.com/

He wants $100 tickets to be issued every time a cop sees someone cross the street while listening to an ipod or talking on a cell phone.

Why can't this democrat resist trying to involve the government?

Frank

And "Here's your sign"......

Why must the stupid people of this country try to do everything within their power to save the rest of the stupid people? Seriously... if the medicine is intended for your a$$ then don't put it in your mouth... if you don't want to pay attention while crossing the street and get hit by a car then be my guess and become a street pizza.

Why, oh why is money being spent and time being wasted in such a manner? I guess I don't understand because I'm not "educated" or rich.

Just another example of how Dems want govt to control every aspect of your life. I WANT GOVT OUT OF MY LIFE!!!

It just like soccer moms with SUV's causing global warming, or guns causing crime they try to pin everything on an inanimate object when the real truth is they are just as stupid as the road pizza with the IPOD stuck to his head.

I just view it as Darwinism at work.

Hey, if you want to walk across the street and get creame by a car, while wearing an I-pod...well...thats your stupid decision. Like putting one's finger in a light socket or walking around in a lightning storm with a 6ft piece of re-bar. Not bright...but it should not be against the law.

We need SOME way of thinning out the stupid from our herd. Can't count on public school anymore - they just keep on promoting the braindead.

Interesting. I thought I might point this out....

So conservatives wanting to ban abortion, gay marriage, premarital sex, stem cell research and birth control, do way with the separation of church/state, and require the pledge of allegiance and prayer in school and in general impose their views is not wanting to control your life? They pin everything on godlessness.

Not that I support the bill, its just that your argument about government control is very one-sided.

sheesh, you know, you'd figure they wouldnt mind the idiot getting smacked while listening to his/her ipod.. it just pumps more money into doctors/hospitals pockets, and we all know how hard up for money the medical industry is.

Finally someone I can agree with, I am not saying anything about his opinion. I am saying I don't support BIG Governement. All sides of the isle are to be blamed equally. Far left, Far right, half bubble out, all of them. Get the heck out of our daily lives. They can not even properly manage the day to day happenins in their own households. WTF makes them "assume" they can possibly decide for the country. Quit electing the guy you can hate the least. Freaking vote "Other" for every position that doesn't have a qualified person. That should wake them up. For that matter use the write in and put your own name. Sheez.

We all hate what is happening, but all I see is people fighting between each other toeing the party line. WAKE UP.... this is how they get away with all the crp they get away with..... Like Al Pacino said, "Te best trick the devil pulled, was convincing us he wasn't there."

If we don't sine the light on them, these freaking cochroaches will take all our rights and liberties that better people than me have died to provide and protect. Pull your heads out of the sand. If a certain person has a habit of constantly posting political threads, don't help his post count. Ignore the thread and move on........
