I'll go on record and say that I'm really not diggin our current administrations stance and handling of the entire situation in Iraq....that being said it makes me absolutely FURIOUS that these people treat our armed forces with such disrespect. I would personally like to kick each and every one of these people in the teeth.

What don't they understand about the fact that our troops are doing a job and risking their lives for our country whether they agree with it or not?

Why is that so hard to understand?

I don't agree with the war but I respect our troops.....infinitely I respect. When I see a soldier I say Thank you. I buy them drinks if they are at my work, I converse with them and shake their hand...why is that so hard to do?...to show a little appreciation.

I am a very non-violent person but these "protestors" boil my blood until my head is about ready to explode.

If I ever witness an act such as this thread describes I'll probably go to jail for beating the sh*t out of that protester...ARRGGHHH!!!!

Who in the world is raising their children to be such narrow minded sh theads? They need their sh t kicked too.

Sorry for the rant....

Protests like this always draw the flakes and the riff-raff. You think this was bad...Check out the WTO protests. Every "rock-dweller" around shows up!

I've usually been pretty tolerant of protesters. But this sickens me, disgusts me, and enrages me beyond reason. If you don't like the war, spit at who is responsible for putting us there, or who is responsible for keeping us there, but you DO NOT spit at or disrespect a brave soldier who has given up more for his honorable duty than that protester could even imagine of. These soldiers, some agree with the war, some don't, all have one thing in common, and that is they serve honorably and willingly, following orders because that is what they're sworn to do. They risk their lives against overwhelming odds. THAT is bravery, not spitting at a man who lost a leg because you don't agree with the Administration's war.

He wants to spit? He should GTFO of the country, and go join the insurgents. Protesting is ok, but this disrespect is crossing a line that every man, woman, and child should NEVER even consider crossing.

To sum it up in two words... DEPORT HIM!

Even tho these are today's events, I feel like I am in a time warp and reading how the returning Vietnam soldiers were treated by many. I couldn't understand it then; I was 19 in 1969, so I was aware of what was going on. It is very disgusting.

I'm going to go on a limb here and say I bet many of those protesters were anarchists who go to these type of things in order to cause violence.

On the the Fox video Frank provided, the guy that was with the vet who lost his leg, stated he noted many of the protestors were older and he surmised (who really knows tho without asking them) IIRC, they were probably those who protested the earlier war.

A guy I used to work with came through San Fran on his way back from Vietnam. He said when they walked the tarmac to the terminal people were spitting, throwing feces and urine and trying to attack our soldiers. When he got into the terminal he went to use the bathroom and said there were combat boots and uniforms piled up in the corner. Aparrently, these "peaceful" protestors were ganging up on soldiers waiting for taxis, so they had to buy civis and change clothes in the bathroom before leaving the airport.

One of my brother's friends was in Desert Storm and when he came back he was leaving the gangway and some young punk got in his face and started yelling "baby killer" and trying (friend was 6'4", 230 lbs) to push him. He tried to avoid confrontation but the kid kept pestering him. Finally, he decked the guy - laid him out cold right there in the airport. The rest of the protestors (only about 10 of them) decided to give it up.

As tenring and others have pointed out lately, there are many so called "peace protestors" who are anything but peaceful.

The examples in this thread show that. Spitting on soldiers?? Come on...that's BS and cowardly--ESPECIALLY when you are spitting and attacking a soldier who only has one leg!

These people also sent him letters when he was in Walter Reid telling him to "have fun dying in the war".

This crap makes me sick.

What a bunch of hypocrites.

Frank

Those protesters may be juvenile, small minded, mean spirited, deluded idiots.

But that is their right WRONG...its not thier RIGHT to assault anyone, its not thier RIGHT to destroy or vandalize personal property

Back in the day, I'd call that pure pwnage. Now that'd I'm a little older and a little wiser... Aw what the hell...

You gotta love these people--masters of the grand and completely useless dramatic gesture. Maybe it helps them believe their early years in the '60's weren't completely wasted to be able to do it all again.

And that soldier showed more restraint than I would have under the circumstances. The protester that did the spitting would have had to see a proctologist about a crutch problem.
I'm having flashbacks to 1971.....it seems like it was yesterday that I was getting the dirty looks and remarks in passing, in the airports as I was traveling back home after my tour of duty..........this cannot happen again.......

Our servicemen and women have served with distinction and they deserve the utmost respect from everybody...period.

Even if you disagree with the war in Iraq, you have no business spitting at or in front of anybody, specially a wounded veteran. It shows that you are an ignorant fool.

Our women and men in uniform have given and continue to give the best and some have given all. They are one of the finest fighting forces that the world have ever seen and they deserve our respect and gratitude.

However, on that subject, I would also urge our government to actively continue to investigate the issues at Walter Reed Hospital and to implement an immediate review of all the Armed Forces veteran & active service health facilities because, that is also a failure, a lack of respect and definitely one of the biggest example of ingratitude from the entity that should be the most vigilant in these matters...our own government.

Thanks for the opportunity to express my opinion.
