Ted Kennedy, Minimun Wage

http://bobgeiger.blogspot.com/2007/0...-it-about.html

Every word rings true to me. Can anyone explain to me why the Republicans are so dead set against a minimum wage hike?

Was it that minimum wage was so high ten years ago that it's still too much for poorer folks? I guess another ten years at $5.15 would be about right?

People rag on Kennedy but I developed a lot of respect for him after seeing that speech of his. I hope that the Republican's are a dying breed. I know many, many of my classmates are Democrats. I wonder how things will be in another generation or so. Ten years. Wow. How many pay raises has Congress had in that time?

Yea ol' Ted Kennedy is true saint. That drunken SOB is only out for one thing, that's Ted.

Here are some quotes from good ol' Ted

There is no doubt that Saddam Hussein's regime is a serious danger, that he is a tyrant, and that his pursuit of lethal weapons of mass destruction cannot be tolerated. He must be disarmed. (27 September 2002)

We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction. (27 September 2002)

Now a little contradiction from Ted:

No matter how many times the Administration denies it, there is no question they misled the nation and led us into a quagmire in Iraq.

There was no imminent threat. This was made up in Texas, announced in January to the Republican leadership that war was going to take place and was going to be good politically. This whole thing was a fraud.

I'm sure there are lots more, but frankly the thought of listing more of that jackass's prattle makes me ill.

Ahhh ... to once again be living in the blissful artificial world of collegiate life.

You see, there is a finite amount of money in a business. The more they pay each employee the fewer employees the business can employ. There isn't some magical money tree the business can shake harder to get more money for more employees. Of course, this is an unfathomable situation tenured professor.

The Republicans, so dead set against a minimum wage hike, have engineered an economy with record low unemployment. Now, you and your wise old democrat classmates, sit back and watch while the minimum wage goes up and unemployment right along with it.

If you admire Ted Kennedy I feel genuine pity for you. Not belittling sarcastic pity, genuine pity for your tiny, narrow window on the world.

What in the world brought you to this site anyway? Surely you can't enjoy firearms or shooting sports since your democrat idols are dead set on stripping all of us our right to keep and bear arms, and that will include you my blissfully ignorant friend.

Wake Up!!!

Let's see, raising minimum wage increases production costs which in turn increases the cost of items produced (you didn't think the manufacturer was just going to eat the loss, did you?). Thus, with the eventual price increases, those making minimum wage aren't any better off than they were before the wage increase. The only thing that changes is the numbers used, NOT THE STANDARD OF LIVING. Anyone who believes a minimum wage increase is the answer to rasing someones standard of living isn't thinking. Politicians do it to get votes by creating the perception that they are doing something and that they actually care about people.

What does this have to do with the minimum wage?

Does increasing the minimum wage raise the cost of production as much as handing out millions of dollars in severance pay to CEO's who manage to lose money for their shareholders?

Can someone please tell me how raising the minimum wage will help the economy?

When you raise the minimum wage, businesses will increase their prices. That alone will nullify any wage increase. Wages go up, prices go up, the cost of living goes up! What is wrong with letting the market determine wages? What is wrong with people earning a higher wage as they work longer? Inflation also raises wages and prices over time.

Anyone know how many people in this country are actually working for the minimum wage? Answer: about 3% The average wage in this country just broke $17/hr in the last couple of months. How is raising the minimum wage going to help?

Raising the minimum wage is just a "feel good" measure that, in reality, actually does nothing. All it does for the democrats is buy votes, which is probably their real strategy behind it.

What does that have to do with minimum wage? Nothing. I agree that some CEOs rape companies. But that's a different debate.

Actually raising the minimum wage is a pay cut to the poor. Those people that make just over the minimum wage are now making closer to the minimum. Now when the prices reflect the increase in production costs people making just over the minimum are now making less money. You think they give somebody maken 7 bucks an hour a raise to reflect the increase to others? nope.
