I'm from Rockland County, NY and just moved to Texas. Been wanting a pistol permit for many years but the NY laws and county executives make you puke. The county clerk (Piperato) who processes the permit applications is an ex-landlord of mine (nuff said).

I'll be picking up an XD??? later this week. Still haven't decided on which caliber yet.

Saw an XD-40 compact for $469 at the local gun dealer.........

when things were innocent

i read on this forum people complaining about laws enacted in the states where they reside....usually concerning gun control ....since this is a gun forum.
has the thought crossed anyone's mind to try and legislate these so called offending laws off the books.?
also living in a state where there has be a enormous increase in populace
spanning thirty plus years i have seen how things change because people bring their mindset with them instead of leaving their mindset at the border of their old state. these changes sometimes are for good...but imho are mostly in favor of big goverment and such.

so as we become a more migratory society we all need to be aware not to influence or promote in our new enviroment the evils that ran us away from our earlier residence.

people seek out others of the same, it's true this helps to make us feel secure and such, i agree whole heartedly. but lets always keep in mind why we enjoy our new home and keep it so.

just my 2 cents

Ostensibly, a LEO who found you to be carrying your .22 LR target pistol out of the range at 9:01 pm could throw you in the slammer and revoke your permit.
That is incorrect. NYS only isses one kind of permit and that is for concealed carry. The restrictions added are merly administrative resrictions (i.e. target, hunting only) placed there at the issuing judges discretion. (O'Connor vs Scarpino 83 ny2d 919 (1994) I work with Mike O'connor by the way) If you are caught carrying with these restrictions you cannot ,or I should say, should not be charged criminally but the issuing judge (not the LEO) can revoke your permit. (People vs. Parker 52 ny2d 935 (1981)) I'd also like to see the permit you mentioned that has hours permitted for carry.

Yea Mike, that's why you need to get out of Rockland.
