Chicago (Daley) control IL. Don't believe me? Move here.

Also, Old School, don't forget that if something like this passes it could end up becoming precedent.

Let's say it passes and attempts to overthrow it fail. Let's say it makes it all the way to the Supreme Court and it is upheld. A law like this could be used in TONS of lawsuits designed to curb 2A rights. This is MUCH more than just a local matter. It has the potential to impact the entire country.

If I may go on a tirade here for a moment....

Most of us know how moronic this ban is and most of us know how ineffective it will be at minimizing crime. Obviously most RATIONAL people understand that, and I have a feeling the politicians do too...at least some of them. This ban isn't about preventing crime, or stopping some kid in Chicago from being shot, it's about this whiny "feel-good" crap people have been spreading around for the past few years. For whatever reason some people are irrationally afraid of assault rifles, small arms, gun owners, gun ownership, pick your poison, and in the past few decades Americans have increasingly grown to believe that it is their right to live "comfortably and unafraid". Regrettably, they expect the government to enforce this policy and to take action to make them live within their comfort zone. Noone ever guarantees you the right to safety, comfort, or lack of fear...those things aren't written in the constitution for a reason. Noone ever guarantees that you won't be offended in this country. As a matter of fact, if you live in America and aren't offended at least once a month by something someone spews out of their gaping idiotic maw, be it political, social, or personal you're either living under a rock, or you've lost your soul. For a while most people were willing to sit back and let "feel good" legislation run it's course. Some of it doesn't really hurt most of us, alot of it imposes restrictions on things that most RATIONAL people wouldn't do anyway out of common courtesy(like appearing naked in public, making various military grade explosive ordinances, or playing loud music at all hours of the night). What has inevitably happened though, is that these sorts of laws have crept closer and closer to infringing upon the inherent personal rights that we enjoy and exercise on a daily basis. Not just the 2nd amendment is at stake here, you can't say anything anymore without the fear that it might be "politically incorrect"...you wouldn't dare publish anything "incitatory, derogatory, or inflammatory"....you don't dare make a product without placing absurd warning labels to protect yourself from being sued (and in some places prosecuted) by imbeciles that the forces of natural selection should have eliminated years ago.

For some reason self-government is essentially gone here, and everyone is waiting for a Judge, Senator, Police Officer, or District Attorney to tell them exatly what to do and when to do it.

I was reading about this on THR last month. It not only pertains to high capacity pistol magazines, but to shotgun tube extensions, etc.

If this happens, It'll be a sad day for the rights of people in Illinois, if they aren't being drilled enough right now anyway.

You are correct. Under the current draft. A 12 Gauge Shotgun would be illegal because a 12GA slug is larger than a 50CAL bullet.

WOW!

Because of some of these crazy things, I'm hoping it won't pass.

Old School, what is the political make-up of the IL legislature? Who is the governor? Any chance he is someone who might veto this?

I don't know very much about IL.

Frank

This is about as ridiculous as what has been going on in CA for years. For the most part though people that do not live in CA have just poked and laughed about the sad state of affairs that is CA gun control. Maybe this will serve as a wake up call that it is not just a select few states that feel it is their responsibility to "make the public safe" by removing firearms from it's citizens.

As far as I see it IL residents have few options. Move to another state, comply and turn over/destroy/sell your legally purchased property, or enter the world of civil disobedience.

It has been practiced by many law abiding citizens in CA since 1994; I guess it's time for IL to delve into the world of civil disobedience.
