More socialism from a "conservative" President

"I support the proposed $2.10 increase in the minimum wage over a two- year period. I believe we should do it in a way that does not punish the millions of small businesses that are creating most of the new jobs in our country. So I support pairing it with targeted tax and regulatory relief, to help these small businesses stay competitive and to help keep our economy growing."-President Bush in his Dec. 20 news conference

Can you please tell me why you consider it "socialism" to support an increase in the federal minimum wage?

Are you somehow saying that we should not increase the minimum wage

Thank you,

Frank

Minimum wage should be adjusted quarterly to the CPI.

I have to agree with KP on this one to some extent. Our founding fathers didn't intend for crap like this.

I'd even go so far as to say the minimum wage is unconstitutional.

Apparently someone is making more than $5.15, since the average hourly wage for non-supervisory workers is $16.94.

Wow, my first job as a pimply teenaged high-schooler started me at $7.00/hour stocking shelves and ringing up customers. I guess I can't complain.

Everybody knows that the forced minimum wage issue is merely Democrat populist politics. The Democrats accomplish two things with this issue: 1. they buy votes with other people’s money and 2. they appeal to people’s greed and envy by appearing to rescue the little man from greedy CEOs.

By tying the minimum wage hike with “tax and regulatory relief” for small businesses the President can fight the Democrat Congress anti-employer agenda. The Democrats have promised to raise Federal taxes so this should be an interesting battle.
