Once again, the original point/subject of this thread has been somewhat lost...

Wasn't this supposed to be about how the democrats and the european socialists are climbing into bed together?

But who cares, at least we will have some more "allies" as someone said. I guess it doesn't matter if those allies are socialist ones. Come on, sheeple!

Iraq Coalition Troops
Non-US Forces in Iraq - November 2006
The size and capabilities of the Coalition forces involved in operations in Iraq has been a subject of much debate, confusion, and at times exageration. As of August 23, 2006, there were 22 non-U.S. military forces contributing armed forces to the Coalition in Iraq. These 22 countries were: Albania, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, El Salvador, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, South Korea, and the United Kingdom.

However, in the August 23, 2006 Iraq Weekly Status Report (Slide 27) the State Department listed 27 foreign countries as contributing troops to the Coalition in Iraq. The additional four countries were Japan, Portugal, Singapore and the Ukraine.

In addition, that same Weekly Status Report listed 34 countries (including the US) as maintaining personnel in Iraq (as part of the Coalition, UNAMI, or NATO). The State Department reported that Fiji was contributing troops though UNAMI and that Hungary, Iceland, Slovenia, and Turkey were assisting with the NATO training mission. However, it is unclear whether Hungary actually maintained any forces in Iraq as part of NATO or UNAMI since its government announced the complete withdrawal of troops in December 2004.

In testimony before the Senate Armed Services committee on August 3, 2006, Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld described the coalition in Iraq as composed of 34 allies (plus the US).

As of June 13, 2006, MNF-I reported that 27 countries (including the US) maintained responsibility over the six major areas of Iraq. Since that time, Japan has withdrawn all of its forces from Iraq.

For the purposes of this tally, only countries that contribute troops as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom are counted.

No tom, I looked at the same propaganda. you need to scroll down to the chart that shows how these "soldiers" are dispersed. Only 4 have troops in the theatre of combat.

Of course if they're oil producing countries it really doesn't matter what form of government they have.

Does it?

Even in irony you are correct. It surely doesn't matter if our allies are socialists. Live and let live. I don't see Portugal trying to shove its political system down our throats. If we can cooperate on international peace and security, great!

But we probably won't be "cooperating". The fear is that we will end up becoming more like them. We haven't had any attacks since 9/11; in fact, we have thwarted several that could have been devastating. We are doing fine with international peace and security (Iraq could be an exception, but we don't need the socialists help to solve that. That is a whole other issue...)

Our fear should be that we will end up adopting the socialst-style appeasement policies than run rampant throughout Europe when it comes to dealing with terrorism. Like when the French tried paying-off threats to bomb their rail system with CASH!!! Now that would be great....

Does nobody here understand that socialism is bad??

And let's not forget the super-stagnant economy that most of the EU nations are currently enjoying....

and people actually believe in economic isolationism...

Perhaps the fear is unsubstantiated and folks here on the boards are just glad that we will be working more "closely" with Europe. I'm just worried as to what exactly that will entail. I think it's a legitimate concern.

It's IDEOLOGY Stupid!

I'm not calling you stupid, its just an expression.

The Democrats are socialist oriented, even the hotbed of socialism in the world knows this. And now the socialists have power in OUR Congress. That's my point and I'm sticking......you know.

The Democrats want peace with socialism only, they want fiscal responsibility the socialism way, they want etc., etc.

Maybe that's tom's point...Since he hates democrats and liberals perhaps he's saying we are better off having no relationship with countries that have a different political system.
