I think more than the numbers, they need new rules for the fighting troops. Let them fight!!

My opinion of the matter is that there is not enough (and never was enough) troops sent over there to secure the country. We only sent enough over to overthrow the government. I don't want our troops there but it's the 'Pottery Barn' theory, and we 'broke it'.

(And no, I don't agree with Rumsfeld, but I don't agree with sending more bodies over for the sake of having more bodies without clear goals and strategies. Both have been lacking thus far.)

I'm curious to see what Gates has in mind with his "fresh thinking." I'm also interested to see how well received the new thoughts are in the white house.

The "definition" of victory is the act of defeating an enemy in battle.
Do I think we need more troops for that? No. But if we want to open a can of...and get it done sooner? yes.

Probably not well. Remember, you dont buck the King. I recall reading somewhere that he was suggesting to do the things that Bush has specifically said no to, such as Syria and Iran in talks, and a gradual pullout.
