Get filthy rich and someone will listen to you.

But then you wouldn't want the fair tax - you'd have to pay more taxes.

Bush touts Estonia's flat income tax By DEB RIECHMANN, Associated Press Writer
Tue Nov 28, 11:36 AM ET

President Bush says the United States should have a simpler tax system. Apparently he has found one he likes — Estonia's. In a brief stop in the Baltic nation on Tuesday, Bush managed to tout Estonia's flat income-tax three times.

"They've got a tax system here that is transparent, open and simple," Bush said in Tallinn after getting a look at how Estonian citizens can file their taxes online.

In a toast about an hour later to Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves, Bush said, "I am amazed to be in a country that has been able to effect a flat tax in such a positive way."

And before fielding reporters' questions with Ilves, Bush again praised Estonia's approach to taxation.

"I appreciate the fact that you got a flat tax, you got a tax system that's transparent and simple," he said.

Bush stopped in Estonia en route to a NATO summit in neighboring Latvia.

Back home, Bush has pledged to simplify the tax laws in the United States, which he calls a complicated mess. One idea is a flat tax, which taxes all income at a single rate and gets rid of deductions. Yet comprehensive reform of the U.S. tax system has gone nowhere in Congress.

He looks good saying it, but we'll never see any movement towards anything like this with a lame duck.

Lame duck, republican controlled, democrat controlled,...you can't pin this one any one party or president (including the next president). It's both parties and political corruption that will serve as the biggest roadblock to the Fair Tax plan.

I have not ever had more money going out than I have comeing in. When my wife quit working to go back to school, We reduced spending. No cable TV, no High speed I-net. sold a car, quit eating out, ETC....

You gotta learn to do without, And that is what alot of these Govt Agencies need to do is to do without.

Maybe you should read the book. Cause that statement is so not true....

There is no way we can get the fair tax passed if peoples minds are filled with the myths of the fair tax

Let's genetically clone a CPA who has never lied, cheated or stolen. Put him in as an Independent candidate and everyone vote for him! That's about as good as I can come up with.

Yes, the Russians...the last people on the earth you'd think could get a taxation plan right...have a flat tax, but we cannot make it fly in the good ol' USA.

Makes one's head hurt...does it not?

PS: Did you also know that it is legal to buy an AR-15 in Moscow, but not in Los Angeles? Another factoid that makes my head hurt, just thinking about it.

Massive overspending and blank check writing in the American peoples name by the Government is the core problem, not the tax system. The sleeping American public (read: under-educated and overly Socialist indoctrinated), have allowed this to occur for years. Whenever our governments run into financial problems the citizens want a quick and painless fix to solve it, namely, steal from the productive members of society to pay for both the unproductive ones, and the pork barrel spending which they have allowed and encouraged. Rich people are rich not by luck, not by government assistance, and not by some mythical force generated by the rest of the citizens in which the wealthy owe someone something for. Rich people are rich by hard work, risk and intellectual capital.
It always sounds good to soak other people richer than you, but when the local drunks & meth-heads of your town start lining up at your house to get their fair share of your wealth, you might have that epiphany that so many Americans need to have: If you want more wealth, turn off your television, get to night school and control your governments spending!

(Might want to read Ann Rand's "Atlas Shrugged", if you can still read after all those years of TV watching).
