New York to outlaw trans fats in 24,000 restaurants

http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,,1882603,00.html

One more reason I don't live in New York...

Just what I want, an FBI agent standing in my kitchen with a glock in my face telling me to drop the donut.

I agree. The government in New York is now dictating how food shall be cooked.

It seems fairly simple to me. If you put more food into your body then your body uses, then you will get fat. If you don't want to be fat, eat less and exercise more. Do we really want the government to intervene and help prevent you from getting fat?

The science on transfats is now quite clear. They cause hardening of the arteries and heart disease.

The freedom to eat what you want. There goes another personal liberty for New Yorkers.

I am not a smoker, don't like smoke. I also don't like government that tell its citizens that they are not allowed to do something that is legal. Infringing on the rights of one to protect another is illegal.

To me, the free market should take care of this one without government interference. If folks stop eating foods cooked in this oil, then the restaurants will lose money until they change.

If transfats are dangerous to the citizens of this country, then the FDA should deem it as such, disallow the use. As long as it is allowed to be used, government should not legislate its use. Sad.

We the consumer can make our own choices. Food labels states if transfats are used. The choice is mine, a personal freedom and right. I know, restaurants don't have labels, which is better for the consumer, IMHO. Why? Because you get to ask the person in the restaurant if they use transfats. If they say yes, you have a choice to make. Easy.

When I order Chinese food, I hold the MSG. My choice, not need to legislate to use MSG. Easy.

Ever heard of the FDA? The USDA? You don't consume ANYTHING unless they approve it. You don't use toothpaste unless they approve it. You don't use soap unless they approve it. Deodorant? Gotta be gub'mint approved. These agencies are intended to protect you from consuming harmful things, but my point here is that just about everything you buy has to be gub'mint approved. To outlaw trans-fats because they are dangerous but allow you to consume tobacco products is kind of...bass ackwards.

Exactly, you made my point. The FEDS "said" it is safe, yet NY wants to outlaw it. Who's right? Let the consumer decide.

Just saw a report on the news that Trans Fats are already outlawed in many restaurants in a city state of....thats right...you guessed CALIFORNIA.....

By the way, if I drink Drain-O I will die, but the government doesnt regulate who can buy that.
