The companies that ship your goods use gas. If gas prices go up, their prices go up. Hence, you have paid for gas.

Its really not much of them gouging prices. Techincally the $ of pure profit goes up when your base price goes up as long as volume steadily increases. Amount of volume consumed, in conjunction to higher prices per barrel of crude has pushed the price up. They just didnt give when they could have to help out.

Been listening to boortz too much

Another thing to throw in the mix is that fact that yes, the big oil companies ARE making huge profits with the 3 dollar plus a gallon price hike, but they will need every penny to build new refineries or offshore platforms.

Why? Because the greens have placed so many restrictions and expensive measures they will need to go through to actually get a new refinery or platform up and running. This is a possible explaination of the insane profits they make that everyone is complaining about.

More refineries in the USA along with platforms off the TX/LA coast means less dependence on foreign oil sources in the future.

If the profits made by big oil today ARE used to build new refineries here in the USA and further explore and tap into the huge find that Chevron found in the Gulf of Mexico and this all weens us off mideast oil dependency in the future...there could be a method to the profits madness of today.

The people I speak to in this industry on a regular basis say this is part of their plan. Shell is working on a huge refinery in the Port Arthur, TX area...I have seen this firsthand.

However, the media in its shortsightedness and incompetence on how this industry really works does not report this because it does not fit into their ideaology of hating big oil/big business and demonizing the wealthy CEOs of these companies and its just not glamourous news, period.

SLCDave hit the nail on the head. The cost of oil and fuel affects everything, not just the gas that goes in your tank. Higher prices add things like surcharges to airline tickets and freight charges. Beyond that it, it affects the cost of raw materials, etc.

The falling gas prices are the easy thing to point out. Has someone noted that this is a ploy by Bush and the GOP because of the upcoming elections? Perhaps I missed that conspiracy while reading.

ok you think he sucks. Honestly thats fine by me. But I'd rather just come out and say it than dance around with a different reason to try to convince everyone else he sucks also. Especially when those reasons are questionable.

Oh, but according to some, the price of gas has no effect on consumer goods?
