When I went to Germany, I spoke German. When I went to Spain, I spoke Spanish. Similiarly, I expect if you come to the US, to speak the language, and its English. I dont recall going to an ATM in Spain, and it having an English option, or dialing a phone number and it having an option for English. If you didnt speak the language, you were SOL.

It was also customary to place your silverware on the right hand side of the plate as a compliment to the chief.

Except, I guess, for the Pilgrims and the rest of the early European 'settlers' of the Colonies, the 'settlers' of the westward expansion, the Texans, the good folks who stole Panama "fair and square," etc. Oh, wait a minute, that's different. They were white.

No, you're right, they were invading....

But, as the old saying goes, the sins of the fater are not the sins of the son.

Am I sympathetic toward the plight of the natives that were pushed off their land? Yes...

Is it my fault that my ancestors may or may not have chosen to do such horrible things? Of course not.

Children that are born in the U.S are eligible for U.S citizenship, regardless of the nationality of their parents.

Furthermore, am I sympathetic to the plight of individuals in countries less fortunate than the United States...most certainly...but a Government has responsibilities to IT'S OWN CITIZENS FIRST and the rest of the world after that.

You're looking at the government as some authoritative entity that is allowed to make decisions for the citizens. No. Do you realize how misguided and dangerous that kind of thinking is?

The government is just an organization that we elect certain responsibilities to. It has no power or authority of its own, aside what we give it, to do anything. All it can do is act within the limits of the duties that we the people allocate to it.

No, I'm not. I elect individuals to represent me, make, and enforce policy based upon my wishes, therefore they have a responsibility to their constituents (i.e. the country they are a a part of) first, and all foreign policy (which is, in the end, designed to improve the life of the American constituent) after that

That's very idealistic thinking...I wonder how well it works in practice. Take a look at any government body today.

So it's a democratic republic and not a democracy. Bottom line is, the people are in control. If you don't like what the people that you elect to represent you are doing, you tell them to f*ck off, and they stop (because they want your votes). If there's something you want them to do that they're not, you tell them to f*ck off, and they do it (because they want your votes). The government does not rule itself. This is not a dictatorship. The system of checks and balances works its way down the ladder to the very people that make up the society... whether directly (democracy) or indirectly (democratic republic).
