Christian neofascism

Well it appears that fascist movements are not limited to Islam and the Middle East - they exist here as well and GW seems to inspire them.

"Speaking in tongues, weeping for salvation, praying for an end to abortion and worshipping a picture of President Bush"

When will the Bushbots give up...

That's it, I'm no longer going to stifle my incredulous laughter at religious freaks like these..They have it coming. Let's hope they don't try to burn me at the stake or anything.

Fanaticalism on one side always begets a fanatical reaction on the opposite. Look at Northern Ireland. Look at our own Civil War. Compromise is difficult when neither extreme is willing to move. It is the us againist them mentality.

While I'm with y'all in sentiment on this topic (as a Christian myself, these folks embarrass the hell outta me), I would (gently) take exception to the term "Christian neofascism", since 'fascism' formally involves a lotta issues that aren't really at play here, and so the use of the term just gives sympathizers a lot to play with. Myself, I vastly prefer the term "Christian taliban," because the resemblance between ultraconservative whacko 'christians' and the Taliban is so bloody striking: religious zealotry, literalism, political powerplay masquerading as faith, eagerness to force non-believers to conform at gunpoint, co-opting a religion of love to turn it into a religion of hate, and, perhaps most importantly, eagerness to square off against Islam in a world war (just as the Taliban is eager to square off against Christianity). I could go on and on. Like I say, the resemblance is striking...it can be hard to tell them apart from the original Taliban unless you sneak a look at the title of the book they're waving around.

And besides, I know from experience that it just p*sses these clowns senseless when you call 'em "Christian taliban". It's fun...try it!

maybe its because i am what could be called a conservative christian, but i fail to see what is so wrong with what this camp is doing. for one, how honest do you think the reporter is being about how they "worship" a picture of GWB. even if i liked our president, anyone who "worships" a man is incredibly backward and should not be considered a Christian. but other than that, i fail to see what was so hatefull about the whole thing. If believing that abortion is wrong in any circumstance or that homosexuality is a sin (like the Bible says) makes me full of hate, i guess youll have to sign me up. but i believe those things. i believe in a literal Bible. but i dont hate people who think different than me. and there is nothing hatefull about trying to "convert" people to christianity. Jesus said at the end of Matthew to go into all the world and preach His word. this should be motivated by love, as im with everyone else as far as NO ONE should ever be forced at gunpoint to say some words to "convert" them. if you say some words just to avoid getting shot its not really what you believe anyway. it more like "a conversion of the heart". honestly, one thing that makes me mad about my fellow "Christians" is how they will say thigns like "i hate fags." and mean it. it sickens me. thats not Christ-like. Jesus hung out with and loved prostitutes, tax-collectors (who were generally corrupt and despised), lepers. all people who were generally outcasts of society. sorry, fairly long rant here, but i want people to know that real "conservative", innerrent Bible christians are motivated by love. any one who isnt is a liar.

So why be christ-like?? In 'christianity' some 'forms' believe jesus is the son of god and some 'forms' believe tht jesus is god in human form.....so if you some worship jesus as as the son of god, isn't that a sin because it isn't worshiping god??

don't answer that. religious discussions get nowhere.....
