Would you like a chip implant?
The FDA has recently approved RFID chips that can be implanted in humans. They claim the use for this would be to store your medical information that would appear on a computer with a simple scan of the area where your chip is implanted. Companies that are producing these chips are looking at other uses...tracking children, controlling access to restricted areas, etc.
In the Netherlands, these chips are already being used by nightclubs to allow patrons to go straight to the front of the line and run up a tab that is automatically deducted from their bank accounts. Gee, sounds great. No cash, no fuss. It is possible that there will be a subtle yet firm push to get US citizens to get "chipped". Would you do it? |

Looks like that Washington Mutual Bank commercial is not so far fetched after all I guess.
For those who haven't seen it, it a man walks up to the teller. She tells him to lean forward and she staples a bar code to his forehead. She then directs him to a line. All of the people in that line have the bar code too. When they get to the front, the teller grabs their head and moves it back and forth over a scanner in the counter. It's funny, but scary at the same time. |

beardman you spelled it right, though if you wanted to be technical you left out 'The' from its title
and to the microchip no way. |

The only consideration that I'd have for a chip would be for my kids.

This is one-a them techno-thingies that prolly seemed like a good idea at the time, but sure ain't.
From a strictly medical point of view it would sure be great, when a physician is staring at an unconscious John Doe, to know the guy's medical history...allergies, prescriptions, diseases, next of kin. But from a civil liberties point of view, it's a complete fustercluck; won't be long until cops are getting warrants to read these chips, insurance companies are reading 'em, and hackers are sneaking reads on the street. I do believe I'll just pass, thank ya kindly.
