Ca. legislators so helpful

To give an example of how restrictive Ca. is; there is a bill pending that will prevent someone from smoking in a vehicle (even your own) if a child is inside. Don't get me wrong, I can't stand smoking and the smell makes me gag. I would guess their reasoning, other than the statement below, is that the children don't have a say in the matter when they are driving with mommy and daddy. There is another to raise the booster seat requirement from 60lbs. and 6yrs. to 80lbs.

The state is basically living 1984 or fast becoming that state. The legislators (read Democrats, since they control both houses) want to control our lives from the day we are born until the day we die. They do not believe we have the capability to make an intelligent decision affecting us or our family; especially our children.

In fact, Assemblywoman Noreen Evans (D-Santa Rosa), who is the sponsor of the booster seat bill, stated, "It's up to us (referring to her fellow assemblymen/woman) to help them (referring to parents) understand what the right thing is." WTF!! The audacity of the woman to not only believe that, but to actually make that statement public.

This is what we live with, in addition to the restrictions they have put and attempt to put on firearms and ammunition. Please don't tell me to move as that thread has already been covered. It could come to it, but not at this time.

Noreen Evans is a former City Council member of Santa Rosa. It looks like she's trying to make her mark in politics since she is semi-new to the Assembly. Too bad it's a poo stain.

this is a good reason to promote redistricting.

Relax gentlemen. It's all part of a grander plan to take away your children and raise them in smoke free concentration camps.

It is kind of amazing that we have all these BS anti-smoking laws and they are all based on an EPA sdudy that was thrown out in court due to their questionability.

I'll agree that our elected 'officials' are simply law-happy these days, and most don't feel they are doing their job unless they can find new ways to restrict public behavior. That said, the other day I'm driving home, behind some idiot doing about 45 MPH who has her two kids (I'm assuming they were hers) completely unrestrained in the back seat. Both were jumping up and down, switching places, having a ball. If this 'parent' had to hit the brakes suddenly, or worse, was involved in an accident, you can imagine what would have happened to those kids. You know that any cop who saw this would pull her over, right? I mean, if I want to be stupid and not buckle up, that's fine. Aren't adults in charge of keeping kids as safe as possible?

I dunno about smoking in the car with kids. My sense tells me education can go farther than legislation with that issue.

This shouldn't even require a new law.

Confining children in a small environment under exposure to potentially harmful and carcinogenic chemicals should be considered child endangerment. Currently there are laws prohibiting that.

People should be allowed to smoke if they want, but your rights end where my nose (or your children's nose) begins.

That covers a lot more area than just cigarette's my man. Your worst enemy is pollution from industries and they are protected by our government. Cigarette smoking is small potato's compared to the pollution big industry creates. Get an old tire and pour some gas on it and light her up you'll see what I mean (don't do this for real). I can't wait till they start throwing smokers in jail to take the heat off our major industrial pollution problems. Our politicians will do anything to keep industry from taking the heat. Of course you realize this cigarette crap only takes place in big cities where the industrial pollution accrues.

Yes Im aware that there are alot of industries that are far worse for our respiratory health than the tobacco industry, but change has to start somewhere, and every little piece helps.

I agree with you that these industries need to be held accountable as well.

I could also see the creation fo this law as a dupe, a proverbial roper-dope to take the public's mind (and wrath) off of big industries and put it on the average everyday Joe-Camel

Lawmakers are just that, lawmakers. If they are not making laws, they are not needed. This is why most law makers come up with dumb laws that do nothing but get their name in the paper - for the sake of the children.

I say we have a eight year moratorium on elections, clean house removing all current elected officials and in 8 years we start over. What do you think?
