Israel, Lebanon, and the UNs failure

We haven't been able to talk about Israel Lebanon yet!

I was so excited we actually got a resolution on the whole Lebanon/Israel thing. Then I find out that prisoner return is not required.

Now They can only muster 3500 of the 15K troops they wanted!?

What exactly is the UN for anyway? The world whines and whines about the excessive force but when they have a chance to do something....they don't. which leads me to believe they either only jumped on the poor Lebanon bandwagon for votes or...they really do support Israel in secret and know there is no peace between terrorists and free people.

Israel had a great opportunity to do major damage to Hezbollah and take out Irans nuclear ambitions all in one shot. They screwed that right up good. We all know Syria and Iran were helping Hezbollah in a big way. Why not take a long flight into Iran and bomb the snot of the nuclear facilities and call it a day. Everybody gets in front of the news to complains. two weeks later the world forgets and is safer.

I agree with war. There are times when war is required. However, if your going to get into it you hit them hard and you keep at it until you win. IMHO you also have to be careful especially with terrorism that you don't breed anymore.

Israel started off good and then lost the whole shooting match IMHO.

Sorry I'm rambling!

Edit: Oh and I almost forgot. Did anyone catch the quote from Kofi Annon about the time everyone was set to vote on the resolution that there had already been "to much talking" or "Enough talking" I can't find the quote now. I thought thats all he wanted to do was talk.

I hear Germany isn't sending anyone, and France is sending 500 troops (equivelant to four Marines)...

Seems like the world doesn't give a rip. While us evil Americans started sending aid in before any one else. Damn us Americans.

I won't get started on that topic. That one is starting to really get me riled!

Name ONE crisis that the UN was involved in that turned out for the better. One crisis, war, uprising or disaster where the UN stepped in and things improved and today, we can look to this area and say the people living there are much better off and its because of UN involvement.

...just one...can you?

I could not think of one.

Why..oh why does the rest of the world coddle this institution as they do? The only reason they do is that the UN tends to act in ways that are against the USA and the rest of the world likes to see the power of the USA diminished for some reason.

Other than that, I fail to see how the UN, as a body, is beneficial to most of the world and the members of the UN itself.

I'd have to agree. You'd like to think if there were a really rouge state it would be good to have the world together... whoops they don't do anything there either.

If the activities of the "Oil For Food scandal" do not qualify as rogue state activities...then I don't know what does.

Kofi Annan and his son ought to be in jail.

Amen brother.

It seems more and more that the whole point of the UN and almost all politicians is to give people something to be scared about...but then never fix the problem.

The UN is a circus, period. I remember a few years ago when the US was put on the human right violator list by its human right committee or some BS, which in itself was consist of some major human right horrors like Cuba and Mozambique. I laughed my a$$ off when I heard that news. All these circus folks can handle is monkey business such as this or the crap like civilian disarmament. Dealing with the real thing like the IDF? Of course it is way out of their leagues.

I am so glad the Congress is still withholding the UN dues.

Well said.
EDIT: BTW we'd be much better off breaking from the UN. How has it been beneficial to the USA?

I was waiting for that to come up. There used to be a trailer parked next to I17 just north of deer valley that said just that for most of my childhood.
