No, that's not it. "Liberals" are so "tolerant" (as opposed to "accepting"). They seem to wonder why some folks do not want to "be with their own kind". They are all for some strange form of "identity politics", assume that White Men (and women educated at a Seven Sisters U.) know best, and think it "beneath them" to defend themselves.

Most real progressives shoot back.

Progressives understand that the rich have waged "class warfare" against both the poor and those who think themselves in the middle since the beginning of time. Progressives understand that the rich mock the middle folks -- the same way GWB and his cohorts mock sincere Christians.

Progressives don't think taxing the personal income of the rich is going to depress the economy -- in fact, they think more money might just go to R&D, to make better things , more affordable things. Giving folks enough to AFFORD $26,000.00 PURSES (that's right, the "must have purse" among the really rich is a cool $26,000.00 -- obscene!) does not "trickle down " -- the only "trickle down" is them peeing on your head.

LIBERALS want to BUY $26,000.00 purses -- but in a "humble way". They want $1000.00 slacks that LOOK like "work pants", and $1,500.00 TODS "Driving Shoes" that look like $39.95 ones from Eddie Bauer.

It's like my Paloma Piccaso Purses -- once sold at Tiffany's. Those who "know" recognize them -- it gives you some sort of "instant cachet" in certain circles. Suddenly, the fact you're wearing jeans and a ratty top means NOTHING. That's what too many "liberals" aspire to, the trappings of wealth -- but, in a humble way.

there are some real liberals left. Those are people you have to admire -- no matter whether or not you agree with them.

Hay now. . . some of us might actually be gun toting, pro-state's-rights, liberals ya know. That is what I self-identify with, after all.

Then again, I know the actual definition of the word liberal, which trust me, is not the one most people like to throw around as an insult. Here are the most pertinent definitions for those that still want to throw it around as an insult:
Quote:
4. favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, esp. as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties.
5. favoring or permitting freedom of action, esp. with respect to matters of personal belief or expression: a liberal policy toward dissident artists and writers.
6. of or pertaining to representational forms of government rather than aristocracies and monarchies.
7. free from prejudice or bigotry; tolerant: a liberal attitude toward foreigners.
8. open-minded or tolerant, esp. free of or not bound by traditional or conventional ideas, values, etc.

Progressive is just the re-packaging of the same old group that has grown tired of the tag: liberal. Don't fall for it.

I don't call them liberal. Why? Because they're ANYTHING but liberal. I want the word liberal back from those that perverted it. Many like me, with Libertarian leanings used to call ourselves "classical liberals."

I call them leftists or neo-socialists. They're not progressive in their thinking either. Karl Marx wrote of their wishes a very long time ago.

Yup.

Also not accurate. Take a look at the term's original meaning from the french revolution. Call them by what it is that you don't like. "Anti-gun advocates" or "anti-state's rights advocates" or "Nanny staters"

Similar to "liberal" being misused, there is a huge group of people in this country who call themselves "Republicans" but are in fact "legislating moralists" but that is a different debate. . .

Good point. I call them "fake conservatives". Miguel calls them "RINOS".

I propose a new rule for this forum. Gratuitous self bumping should be forbidden, as should pointless ressurection of old threads.

If there is a point to bumping an old thread, fine, but frankly BD's spamming of this page with his old idiotic threads is obnoxious, serves no purpose, and would IMHO constitute harrassment against Frank.

That sounds good to me. About 99% of the time when I bump an old thread there is a point (bd might disagree, but that's to be expected) and I have something to contribute.

lately, bd has been trolling for himself by bumping his OWN threads. The only thing he writes when he bumps them is something about me.

I'm not going to report him to the mods, but I wouldn't blame someone else for doing it.

Frank
