Thumbs up RED Fridays..........Moved from the Chatter Box Because......

May, I share this with all forum members. It was
received in a email to me. I feel the idea could
pick up momentum and besides...I like it!

Red Fridays-------------- Very soon, you will
see a great many people wearing Red every Friday.
The reason? Americans who support our troops used
to be called the "silent majority".

We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for
God, country and home in record breaking numbers.

We are not organized, boisterous or over-bearing.
We get no liberal media coverage on TV, to reflect
our message or our opinions.

Many Americans, like you, me and all our friends,
simply want to recognize that the vast majority of
American supports our troops.

Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our
troops with dignity and respect starts this Friday -
and continues each and every Friday until the troops
all come home, sending deafening message that....
Every red-blooded American who supports our men
and women afar will wear something Red.

By word of mouth, press, TV -- let's make the United
States of America on every Friday a sea of Red much
like a homecoming football game in the bleachers.

If every one of us who loves this country will share this
this with acquaintances, co-workers, friends and family.
It will not be long before the USA is covered in Red and
it will let our troops know the once "silent majority" is on
their side more than ever, certainly more that the media
lets on.

See Snopes take on all this...whereas it is a good cause, the idea just doesn't quite work out...

The only question is how effective the proposed scheme is for its purpose, and one of the drawbacks to this type of display is that it involves something perhaps a bit too ordinary. Red clothing is not uncommon, so if the participation level is not high enough to create the suggested "sea of RED," how does one distinguish participants from those who have merely donned red garb by coincidence (or because they're Nebraska Cornhusker fans)? A better scheme might be to don something one wouldn't normally wear (such as a badge) or a distinctive color combination, although these methods might also have the shortcoming of being less visible at a distance. And for some people simply wearing red as a demonstration of support may be a source of satisfaction in itself, whether or not others recognize the gesture or do so as well.
Cheers! M2

Seems to work pretty well for Tiger Woods on Sundays.
I'll wear red tomorrow (Friday).

I Still Like the Idea...............

Thanx M2XD. I had run it by Snopes before posting
and decided that it is still a good idea. I wore a Red
Maker's Mark ball hat today signed by none other than
Bill Samuels himself. He is the guy that makes that good
ol' Kentucky bourbon with the red wax topping.

hah, yeah, like that time when i was at college, and found out, too late, that it was gay awareness day or something, and to wear jeans that day if you were in support, which, at that time, meant, "I'M GAY!!!". not that there's anything wrong with that, it just doesn't help much when you're trying to score with the chicks.

mst3kguy, that is exactly what I was going to ask. If you wear red in the wrong neighborhood, it will get you killed. I guess we won't expect the Bloods to wear red in the Hoover Street Crips 'hood.

Sorry Ed, just a little humor, but it can actually cause a problem in some areas.

The concept sounds good for the right reasons, so I'm willing to try it. I don't live in a bad area and after all, I do carry a gun.

Just a quick theoretical question: is it OK to support our troops by suggesting that they shouldn't be needlessly put in harm's way by being thrown into an ill-conceived military adventure that accomplishes nothing, that in fact looks to be making things a lot worse, and that hamstrings us from responding to the actual threats popping up like weeds everywhere else?

Or does supporting our troops mean we have to line up squarely behind every pol who gets a wild hair and decides he wants my kid to go somewhere and kick some @ss for him?

Just theoretically, you unnerstand....

Why don't you theoretically take it to the political forum.
