I don't think people are against the goal of protecting America, I think it's concerning the means of how to do so. There are many ways to protect somebody. You can protect a child by keeping him locked up, giving him just the requirements, such as food. The over-protective mother on the comedy "Bubble Boy" (Extremely stupid movie, but a good diversion when waiting for the game to come on, if nothing else is on...) comes to mind. Note, I am not saying that this is what is being done, only saying that the feasability of protective methods is based on perception.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with the practice of monitoring calls of suspects. And I don't see any problem with phone call records being given out. I mean, it's not like these calls are being used to tell to the world that someone's cheating on his wife and putting it to the babysitter. I, personally, don't mind/care if my calls are listened in on. If it will keep this nation safer, without truly harming the citizens, I say go for it, as long as it's kept in check, and kept to reasonable limits.

The choice is clear. Do you support the NSA's goal of protecting America from harm using the legal (and sometimes borderline legal) methods that it is currently employing? Yes or No?

Yes, as long as all of my rights and privacy are in tact.

Do you buy into the liberal panic machines mantra of hate everything that GW is doing to stop terrorist attacks so they can pick up a seat or two in the house.. or not?

I'm not sure the alternative is anymore attractive. I just thought when Bush was elected, he would be more Reagan-like and less..well..Bush-like. He had a chance to be a hero in the history books. His approval ratings are his own doing.

Do you believe, as does Nancy Pelosi and Patrick (leaky) Lehey that Dick Cheney sits in his secret undisclosed location listening to you trade carrot cake recipes with your mother.. or do you think it's a bunch of hogwash?

I am not against using what means we have at our disposal to thwart terrorism, but I am worried about the definitions of domestic terrorism under the Patriot Act and spying on citizens that is remnisent of the fifties. I'd trust TR or JFK or Reagan. I'm not sure Bush and his gang can be trusted with such power.

I don't think those are loaded questions at all.

If none of these so-called "illegal" steps were taken by the president and we were once again attacked, what do you think the outcry would be...?

I can't agree with this for this reason, everytime some nasty person does something bad with a gun who pays for it? We do. Our government can't control the bad guys so they make up laws to control us. It takes away our rights and the evil people continue on with their escapades.

They just need to take the so-called "illegal" steps and make it unlawful to outcry.

I'm currently reading a book about just how illegal most of our government is... I personally think our founding fathers never intended for things like this. I think they knew more than any of us in an age where we are not even remotely repressed.

However having said that. IF hostile aliens from zorg ever show up I want to know area51 and every other "supposed" underground complex really existed and that we have some silly death ray technology that can fight back. Obviously this applies to anyone inclined to yell "Allah Akbar" as well. however if its ever unconstitutionally used to take away the rights of any citizen or unjustly persecute a non-citizen then I feel those responsible should be brought up on any and all charges available.
