On Demagoging Gas Prices and Executive Compensation

What’s behind the high price of gas? If you’re interested in the facts, read this article on NPR and send it to your friends and family members. (H/T: Betsy’s Page)

Perhaps someone should send the piece to Senator Bob Menendez and others demagoging the oil/gas price issue. We also suggest someone send these same folks information about Jon Corzine’s severance package from Goldman Sachs which had almost the identical value of the retirement package received by Lee Raymond, the former chairman of Exxon, so much in the news.

Quote:
When Corzine left, he owned about 4.5 million shares of Goldman Sachs stock, which made up the vast majority of his financial portfolio, then valued at more than $400 million.

The differences between the circumstances surrounding Corzine’s package and Raymond’s? Corzine was co-chairman of Goldman Sachs for about 5 years and was fired, while Raymond was the chairman of Exxon for 12 years and retired. Raymond headed up an oil company that creates jobs, pays billions in taxes and brings products to market that make our way of life possible. Corzine shared the top job at an investment banking firm, which among other things, helped make the Enron scam possible.
Enilighten New Jersy

Now surely, all you liberals, and cinics like OEF are just as pissed off at this liberal Democrat as you are about those nasty rich people who create jobs, and make your 401K's so valuable...

Raymond

Good one Ray. Well I think he posted it at 4 am so most people are probably asleep, I am sure Ray will get some responses.

I get pissed off at anybody who has to lie, cheat and steal to make it big in America. None the less it has become the standard these days.

Yep, Ray sees things like XDFunny..............Republican =good, Dem=bad.

Crooks and swindlers and cheats come in all stripes and colors.

I don't know if these two guys necessarily cheated or stole, they took what they could. The entire system of business at that level protects its own. Look what happened with Carly Fiorina (sp?). She took over HP and failed miserably and also walked away with a bundle...happens every day. It's part of their contracts.

What's saddest of all is we have drug dealers making much more money than any of them, and in some cases they are in partnership with our government. (and other govts. too).

Peace,
D.

I still remember seeing the hidden video of IBM's top exec's . They had just revamped the retirement packages for their employee's. They were laughing about how they had screwed the employee's out of a lot of money. But of course I'm sure all the top exec's at IBM are Republicans so it would be OK to do that. Is that the point your trying to make ray?
