Can't fly American Flag in San Bernardino, CA...

Can't fly American Flag in San Bernardino, CA... aleast when mexican highschool students ditch school to protest, waving that great red, white and green buzzard at city hall.

Opened the paper this morning (The Sun - San Bernardino, CA) and front page of the Local section.................

"Flag request denied - SB won't fly flag following protests"
By Kelly Rayburn - staff writer

Basically the 5th ward councilman Chas Kelley after seeing the mexican students waving the mexican flag outside of city hall las week he thought they should put the big 30 x 22 foot American flag draped on the side of the city hall building like they did after Sept. 11, 2001............

Since the students ditched school and were not learning he felt that it would be an opportunity to educate the students and make them mindful that the American flag represents their opportunity to assemble and protest.

Lori Sassoon (assistant city manager), Fred Wilson (City Manager) and Jim Sharer (city director of facilities) would not allow it because "it might cause an issue"............................................ .......

a bunch of spineless anti-American assholes....................

I am so pissed off I can't say anymore.............

Flag request denied
SB won't fly flag following protests
Kelly Rayburn, Staff Writer

SAN BERNARDINO - When 5th Ward Councilman Chas Kelley saw student protesters waiving Mexican flags outside City Hall last week, he decided a little bit of Old Glory was needed.
Actually, make that a lot of Old Glory, in the form of a 30-by-22-foot American flag.

Early last week, Kelley urged city staff to drape the giant flag from the side of City Hall - the same flag hung there after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

It didn't happen.

"I thought it would be an opportunity to educate the students and make them mindful that the (American) flag represents their opportunity to assemble and protest," Kelley said. "I thought it would be an excellent opportunity to educate the students, since they were not in school learning."

After he was rebuffed, Kelley forwarded e-mail exchanges between him and city staffers to the media.

According to the messages, staff saw complicated logistics to the idea.

They also worried the move would be taken as political and could possibly agitate protesters.

On Friday at 2:22 p.m., Lori Sassoon, assistant city manager wrote, "Hi Chas - regarding your request, the consensus was that it would likely be viewed as a political statement, which might cause demonstrators to respond further."

Nineteen minutes later, Kelley wrote back, "Hi, sure took some time to reply on this. It would seem that if there was a consensus, that @ the very least the guy who made the request should have some say. Who was the 'consensus'?"

He continued, "Just a thought, when has a display for our flag been a political statement? Seems that others are free to express what they want."

Sassoon responded at 2:47 p.m., "Sorry for the delay, Chas. It's been quite a week! Fred, Jim, and I agreed that it might cause an issue."

Sassoon was referring to City Manager Fred Wilson and Jim Sharer, city director of facilities.

City staff could not be reached over the weekend.

Third Ward Councilman Gordon McGinnis said they "absolutely" made the right move.

McGinnis said the protesters had no business leaving school, but that it was not at all necessary to hang the American flag in response. "You don't want to try to cause or create any additional disturbances," he said. "It's enough to have a nuisance running around."

Community activist Gil Navarro also attacked Kelley's idea.

"I think (Kelley) is confused," he said, "because those protesters were waving the Mexican flag and the United States of America flag."

Navarro attended Tuesday's protest.

But Kelley doesn't plan to give up on his idea.

He said he'd likely bring it up at today's City Council meeting, during which he also plans to push for billing the school district for the costs associated with police monitoring of last week's protests.

"Whether they do the right thing or not," Kelley said, "is yet to be determined."

Does Mexico have a pledge of allegiance? Also how does their national song go. We might as well all start learning it, because our govt is selling us to a third world country.

I really don't know who is more dangerous to our existance...the illegals or the PC weenies that promote this kind of crap.

Unbelieveable. I don't know how sensible people still live in that state. I'd be angry all the time.

The hanging of the US Flag under these circumstances could incite a riot. The lesson that Chas Kelley wanted to teach them could well have backfired. One could look at it as a spineless decision or one could look at it as keeping the public safe from a riot.

The decision is just another symptom of the illegal immigration problem and there may be war in the streets before this thing is settled properly. The illegal immigrants have amassed such numbers now that they are emboldened to stand up and shout "we don't want to be here legally, we just want to be here!".

They even degrade themselves further with statements like "Who will pick your lettuce?" That's not why they come here. They aren't biologically predisposed to picking produce. They are here because if you cross the border and poop out a baby you get free health care, food stamps, subsidized housing and money. Why wouldn't you come here?

I agree.....If they are so fired up and proud of their Mexican flap.....I mean flag then why did they leave Mexico. It seems to me that the U.S.A. might soon be in for a rebellion from illegals trying to make us the U.S.M. I am not paranoid. This is the way things like that begin and before the closed eyes of the citizens are opened the Mexicans could very well be our new owners. I am not advocating ethnic cleansing but the Mexicans are gang oriented and violent at heart. Washington needs to react or before we know it they might change it's name to New Montezuma.

I used to live 20 miles from San Bernardino, This is the kind of crap that forced me to relocate. I hate to sound so redneck but that wouldnt happen here in Arkansas. I love it here.

if living in a place where american values are still held strong, then that's not redneck. Now, some things of the area are lol.. I live in Nebraska so I know a little about rednecks. But for the most part, the people here don't sell out the country.
