DeLay's Out!

Looks like the net just got a little tighter....

MSNBC: DeLay won’t seek re-election

Chris Matthews reporting former House majority leader won't seek return

BREAKING NEWS
MSNBC
Updated: 10:59 p.m. ET April 3, 2006

Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, a firebrand Texan tainted by a lobbying scandal that ensnared some of his former top aides and cost the congressman his leadership post, won’t seek re-election to Congress, MSNBC's Chris Matthews reported Monday night.

DeLay was expected to disclose the plans Tuesday, said Matthews, host of MSNBC's “Hardball.”

Matthews said that DeLay told him in an interview that “the polling on him in the 22nd District was going down,” as a result of his part in a campaign contribution controversy.

A Texas grand jury indicted DeLay on Sept. 28 on the charge of criminally conspiring with two associates to use illegal corporate contributions in Texas state elections in 2002, in a bid to aid the Republican Party shift the congressional map in Texas and solidify control of the House of Representatives for the GOP.

“He (DeLay) expected to take a beating all summer on this,” Matthews said. “I guess he felt the beating was going to continue.”

DeLay defeated three other Republicans to win his March 7 primary. The second-place finisher was lawyer Tom Campbell.
This breaking story will be updated.

No. I'll bet that if he beats the charges then we will see him on Capitol Hill in a few years...as a lobbyist. That seems to be the preferred career choice for retired legislators of both parties. At least this way they are more honest and admit they are doing it for the money.

The net didnt get tighter, the next big tightening will be at the end of May.

I would like to add that Delay has been found guilty of nothing. Also, it wasnt his choice to not run, he was told that he wouldnt.

The Republican Culture of Corruption snares another one.

He didn't quit because of loyalty to his party.

Another of his top aides will be convicted soon for influence peddling and the Jack Abramoff scandal is closing in.

It was only a matter of time.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

American politics are much better off with scum like this out of the picture.

I"d like to say "let's move on", but the Republican Culture of Corruption will claim many more like Delay.

I told you so.

If he doesn't make a run for the border, he may end up in the same cell with Cunningham.

The more corruption that is stamped out (Republican or Democrat), the better.
