Didn't I tell you all long before Obama took the oath, that cap and trade is seriously bad news? If you ask me, its going to do much more damage to us than Obamacare.
Valero and other oil compaines have started local campaigns to educate consumers on what cap and trade will do to the prices they pay for gasoline and petroleum based products like plastics and paint. They don't want everyone to act all shocked or blame the oil companies when gas runs 6 bucks a gallon or paint runs 80 bucks a gallon. This could VERY WELL happen. The guys I know that work at the refineries here at ground zero for the US oil biz tell me that this bill will make their operation very expensive to run and severely limit the capacity they can put out. That means shortages which means...surprise!...higher prices. This was one of the MAIN reasons I opposed Obama. This is disasterous and especially when the economy is already in bad shape. Our city could end up looking like Detriot...that means that Detroit will look like Darfur! Some of you should have thought about this, when you pulled the lever...but obviously you wanted change more than anything else. Well...you're going to get change alright. Just don't blame the oil companies...we tried to warn you all....but you would not listen. So line up along the curb and wait for your solar powered cars...ok? Pack a lunch too....its going to be quite a wait. - brickboy240 PS: I read somewhere that if Exxon was not around to pay their heavy tax bill in 2007, you all would each pay around 1300-1400 dollars more in income taxes. Still hate Exxon?

horse. sh!t.
i'd say i cant believe anyone would support this, but i know many folks who dont watch the news and dont research anything(my friggin parents included in this). they probably dont have a clue about how rotten crap and tax is. go ahead and drive even more companies overseas. i wear new balance. i buy probably 2 pair a year. they are great shoes, very comfortable and readily available in larger sizes(surprisingly its hard to find decent shoes in a 14 without special ordering). on top of being great shoes, they are made in the US! who else does that? a good affordable product and this administration would like to chase them away like every other manufacturer that used to be in the US. idiots.

Like Brickboy mentioned ...there were plenty of warnings of what Obama's intentions were before the election ...even from his very own lips ...but people were gullible enough and foolish enough to blindly follow this socialist pied piper who magically promised 'hope and change'. I'm a big New Balance purchaser too! I'll add my Kudos to Kev too! Now if we could only get him to see the light on a few other issues!

They are cold, calculating decievers who are basically declaring war on the US and capitalism with economic policies. We are probably headed for the roughest stretch in our history save the civil war. Get your house in order folks, the crap is gonna hit the fan.

incredibly naive to think energy companies will just eat the losses and in no way whatsoever pass on these new expenses to consumers

Energy companies have NEVER done that in the past.
How soon we all forget last summer's 4 bucks plus a gallon. Big oil was lambasted like nobody's business and we heard al lthe hype over big oil's "obscene profits" did we not? Flash foreward to this summer: did ANYONE hear diddly-squat about Exxon's profits? Nope! Because gas was well under 3 bucks a gallon...big media and the left were deathly silent. Cap and trade is all about CONTROL. Nothing more. Right now, the govt and the left have little to no control over the energy sectors of our economy. And because of that lack of owenrship/control and the fact that enegry companies make products we like and use....surprise!...the energy sector is the last large American based industry that still makes a profit. When the left is through strangling the golden geese of Wall Street, the auto companies and healthcare....the only golden goose left is the energy sector. If they want to truly control society....they HAVE to control the energy. And what better way than this whole farce of climate change? Cap and trade the the demonization of oil and coal is easy, when you can use a throey of the planet heating up and pollution...right? But the masses just gobble up the anger at oil and coal and many will buy into the need for cap and trade. Sad thing is that after this passes...everyone will be very sorry, as there are very few workable alternatives out there to oil and coal. So don't be fooled by the claims of how this will clean the air or stop climate change....it won't! What it WILL do is force you to pay higher gasoline and utility costs and the extra costs of energy will soon trickle down to damned near everything that is made or transported by ship, train or truck. It will also affect the costs of anything made of plastic because plastics are made from oil. This will affect EVERYONE..not just punish oil or coal companices or some fat cats living in their gated communinties....EVERYONE will feel the brunt of this. Yes...even you Obama supporters. Michael Savage has a very good phrase that symbolizes exactly what cap and trade is: "trickle up poverty." Like the man or not...you have to admit that this defines cap and trade better than anything I could ever come up with. The seen and unseen effects of cap and trade will trickle up and drown us all...eventually. Like Obamacare; we simply cannot afford this. The people that support and push for cap and trade are not stupid people. Many went to ivy league colleges and have ten times the education I have. Make no mistake about it - this is designed to destroy our economy and force their control onto us. Scary as it sounds....I have come to the conclusion that this is true. There is simply no other logical explanation for it. Toss a tinfoil hat on me if you must. Now...are some of you STILL glad you voted for change? - brickboy240

I don't share your conspiratorial bent that this is a cold and calculated way to take control of the energy sector or to exert greater control over the people. Could those be side effects of C & T? You bet. I believe that C & T is thought by some to be a way to reduce CO2 emissions and help the environment. I think they believe their hearts are in the right place and that they feel this is the best way to handle some issues. Do I think that C & T will do anything other than to hurt our economy and hurt the citizenry? Absolutely not. That is why I posted the OP. I am not a Karl Rove fan in the least but in this case I think the guy hit the nail squarely on the head with his explanations. |

^^^FWIW, I hope you are right, and I am just be paranoid and overly cynical.
I try everyday to convince myself this is the case, I have not yet succeeded.
