Cut and pastes, yes or no

Regarding the prolific use of cut and pastes that seems to go on here, I have another poll.

Please take a minute and vote

I say put the link, then a summary of the article below it, then have the poster give his/her opinion on the article.

If they do not post within a reasonable time to support their opinion Mark, I say delete it...

This doesn't just affect PV, but any forum.

URLs can change at the host site, which makes any link in a forum post useless.

Web pages can totally "disappear", as well (especially controversial topics) from news sites (which, again, makes any link in a forum post useless).

I personally like to quote the article and provide a link to it (for folks to visit to watch any video, etc) as well as provide my take on whatever I've quoted.

I don't mind the cut and paste if commented upon. What I don't like is cutting and pasting (then ADDING) your own 'twist' in the original article. That's craptacular, lazy, and doesn't add to the debate.

I like the cut and paste. I don't have to visit another website and i don't have to worry about the content on the other website to understand what the OP is talking about or to engage in a discussion.

98% of the time people are good about putting NSFW tags on their thread if it's NSFW, but there is that 2%. I access and view XD talk while at work, so it is a concern going to a website I've never heard of from my work computer.

Even if the OP doesn't leave a comment, if it's something concerning to us someone will post shortly that will kick off the discussion. Maybe the OP has a reason for not posting their opinion. This could be for a couple reasons, like they haven't made up their mind yet so they want to see some other opinions before they form one or maybe it's a topic they want to make others aware of, but don't want to debate their opinion.

I don't see the problem with the cut and pastes. I saw leave it how it is.

+1. People can read everything you're talking about enough to engage in the conversation, but they don't have to visit another site.

I believe that cut and paste articles should be accompanied by a link to the actual article and source referenced. Some sources are arguably unreliable and most are biased in one direction or another related to the topic. Also, some of the cut-and-paste posts may have been 'modified' to suit the poster's own views, and a link would allow one to read the article or reference in an unabridged format.

My vote is to allow cut-and-pastes but only if a link is provided to the original article and some commentary is also provided as to the reason or relevence of the post to the article in order to begin a dialogue on the subject..
