New Sheriff, new rules.

Howdy all, as I'm sure many of you are aware I now am an official Moderator.

My first task is to bring the PV back to being a place to discuss and yes even disagree about any and all things political WITHOUT acting like children.

I can remember a time when dozens of folks were active in here, now it's just a core group of folks, most of whom seem to be here only to take pot shots at others or to stir the pot or encourage the melee.

Well, my intent is to quell the mudslinging and encourage honest discussion once again. I know that political stuff gets folks fired up and that's OK, but that does not mean folks get to act like spoiled or even snotty children anymore.

Enforcement WILL be swift and strict, I WILL lean towards locks and deletions first, with temp bans and perma bans following if it does not improve in here. My tolerance level for BS WILL be low. My tolerance level for pot stirrers will be even lower That comment is directed at folks on both sides of the aisle, you know who you are.

I will make decisions in here based as much on the perceived INTENT of posts as much as I will on specific content. If a thread degenerates into a slugfest, even if there is no direct COC violation, it will still get locked. When productive, civil discussion ends, so does the thread.

The following "rules" will be strictly enforced, as I interpret them.
There will be no committee decisions.

In no particular order......

1) Do NOT call folks out, period.
If you ask them a direct question within the vein of a thread, that's fine if it pertains to the discussion/thread at hand, but be careful that you keep it on topic or at least with the flow of the thread.
Along those same lines, and perhaps more importantly,

If you are asked a direct question and it is fair and pertains to the thread, answer it to the best of your abilities. If you are going to engage in a discussion, engage in it.

2) NO insults, period. Don't even go there. If you can't make a point without getting personal, leave now. It's fine to argue, politely.
There is no reason everyone can't abide by this.

3) I am undecided about cut and pastes, sometimes they are pretty good, sometimes they are nothing more than pot stirring.
If you cut and paste something you dang well better be discussing it in the thread yourself. This includes a decent commentary WITHIN the first post. Fly bys WILL be deleted, multiple fly bys WILL result in the ban hammer.
This applies to BOTH sides of the aisle, so to speak.

4) This is a biggie and my tolerance will be ZERO on this.

I have seen some pretty crude stuff said lately and while it may not technically be "foul language" it's just as bad and only serves to engender a decent into the gutter. (This rule will also be rolled out shortly forum wide, this is a family friendly forum, it will return to the place where I am not embarassed if my 14 yr old daughter reads it.)

I AM NOT here to be an overlord, but I am also not here to babysit toddlers. I will be cruising threads at random to keep and eye on things, if I miss something and you honestly feel it needs attention, report it.

Infractions WILL be posted for all to see, not to embarrass anyone but to give honest examples of things that cross the line.

Be adults, discuss and disagree politely, and carry on.

Also Mark I think you will do a good job, however that is a little to dictaorish for me. It either violates the COC or it does not! The Mods and or site owner made the rules. Let's stick to them. Welcome and good luck.

I completely understand your concern in this area. However there have been numerous instances of folks skating right up to the line just to see how far thy could push the COC enforcement. Well, if folks want to push the edge, they need to be prepared to get tipped over it.

This will apply mostly to threads being locked, not bans. It still has to be pretty egregious to earn a ban. Locks will come down much easier though and I think serve as a good guideline for when folks are getting right up to that edge.

To be frank, I'm just gonna have to be trusted to not be a turd or Lil Napoleon about it, and I don't intend to.

My hat is off to you, Mark. I don't envy you this task at all, but I appreciate you taking it on. IMHO, XD Talk has needed some serious moderation for a long time and the PV sections is a great place to start.

Then again, I'm someone who would remove EVERYTHING from XD Talk that was not related to firearms or the Second Amendment.

(OK - one or two "fun" threads, but "what kind of [insert something not at all related to firearms] should I buy" threads? No.)

There's plenty of other places on the net to rant and rave about everything else!

Understanble, however locking sucks too because you can't offer a decent rebutle. I do trust you though Mark.

Mark you have my support. I hope you can accomplish the spirit of what you are after. It has been sorely needed for some time. Folks just can't seem to understand I don't give a crap about their personal grudge match in every single thread.

I made the decision that this forum no longer offered any value to me. I will see how it goes, participate in the changes and reevaluate my thinking.

I have learned so much from this forum and getting involved in politics because of it. Seems these days one can't even find a honest discussion anymore. Hopefully we can make a move back to some sort of constructive debate. The kind our Founding Fathers intended. Dissention is vital to a healthy Republic. Personal elementary school BS interests me in no way.
