Yawn
"According to speech excerpts released by the White House, tonight President Bush will take the bold stand that America needs to be less dependent on foreign oil:
America is addicted to oil, which is often imported from unstable parts of the world. The best way to break this addiction is through technology. Sound familiar? 2002: “This Congress must act to encourage conservation, promote technology, build infrastructure, and it must act to increase energy production at home so America is less dependent on foreign oil.” 2003: “Our third goal is to promote energy independence for our country, while dramatically improving the environment. … [We should be] much less dependent on foreign sources of energy.” 2004: “I urge you to pass legislation to modernize our electricity system, promote conservation, and make America less dependent on foreign sources of energy.” 2005: “I urge Congress to pass legislation that makes America more secure and less dependent on foreign energy.” Meanwhile, our dependence on foreign oil has increased from 58 percent in 2000 to 66 percent today. If America is addicted to oil, George W. Bush is our dealer. " bd covering it for numbnuts Quote:

Here are the only instances of Clinton’s concern for energy in all of his State of the Union speeches.
2000 For example, just last week, automakers unveiled cars that get 70 to 80 miles a gallon -- the fruits of a unique research partnership between government and industry. And before you know it, efficient production of bio-fuels will give us the equivalent of hundreds of miles from a gallon of gasoline. To speed innovation in these kind of technologies, I think we should give a major tax incentive to business for the production of clean energy, and to families for buying energy-saving homes and appliances and the next generation of super-efficient cars when they hit the showroom floor. I also ask the auto industry to use the available technologies to make all new cars more fuel-efficient right away 1994 Our plan includes a tax on energy as the best way to provide us with new revenue to lower the deficit and invest in our people. Moreover, unlike other taxes, this one reduces pollution, increases energy efficiency, and eases our dependence on oil from unstable regions of the world. The Liberal answers to high energy costs – pipe dreams and tax hikes. Tom

The oil we buy from others now will mean our un drilled reserves will be worth more later.

When I called the psychic hotline last night, they told me that bd would post nothing but negative coments about the SOU address. I was so ****ing pissed that I paid good money for that little tidbit of the "future". I am going to contest the charges with my credit card company.

Thanks Don! Quote:
How much of this is his own fault is open to debate. Whatever degree he may be to blame, it really is too late to waste our breath and our efforts arguing about it. Blame doesn't get things done. It doesn't change history. I can't think of an instance in which it could help the future. Taking responsibility and looking ahead, not back is the only hope for improving America's outlook. It is time for this country (through our elected representatives) to come together and accomplish what we need to in order to achieve not only an independence in respect to our energy needs, but to overcome so many of the problems that Bush alluded to in his SOTU speech tonight. All the proposals for all the programs and improvements he spoke of are completely worthless unless a spirit of cooperation can take hold in Washington. Maybe that's too much to hope for at this point in time. Just looking at this very forum - a forum in which all members ostensibly have at least one thing in common...share something that brought us together; we read the different perspectives on politics and see that for some THE most important issue is to keep alive the divisiveness. To instigate ill will. To speak of "hate" and to embrace it. In Washington, for some, money and power may be gained through the promotion of a division of the electorate. Here there is no upside, no reward for such behavior and rhetoric. Yet we see it every day. All we can hope for is change. An end to the false accusations, the baseless charges and labelling of others. The presentation of lunatic opinions as if they are facts. Quote:
Blame. Looking back. Promoting divisiveness. Quote:
Peace, D.

The only way to get things done in Washington now is to be victorious over the Democrats. To think otherwise is foolish, we all know this. This is why the Democrats and liberals on this forum hate Bush so much - because he is beating them. The Democrats and Liberals only talk 'working together' because they LOST the election. My only disappointment with the Administration and Congress is that the Republicans have not pressed their advantage hard enough - partly the fault of stupid moderate, wishy-washy Republicans. Tom
