The Swedish system has declined over the years, but the system in the Netherlands has been consistently good, according to people who compare and rate the various health care systems in different countries.

PROOF!

rate them based on what?

is choice anywhere on that list?

or quality?

is it a sliding scale like comparing say guatamala with the netherlands, but dismissing america as some sort of outlier. Nevermind comparing our system pre HMO, and pre hack ambulance chaser lawyer, and PRE illegal alien dead weight.

Nothing, no where compares to americas post war medical and health care systems.

its is the envy of the world.

Now for folks who like to spend their money on booze, or gamble, or not work, or not get on the phone and buy insurace, well its not fool proof.

Why are you so consumed about preserving fools. Self interest maybe?

woa.

whod a thunk it.

a lazy SOB doc who writes crap on the side, who digs socialism cause frankly he is a crap doctor.

Why else would he want socialized medicine.

every guy on that left column both looks like a liberal douche POS, but the also sound like terrible people. Just move to cuba already.

Their system is fairly simple, everyone is required to purchase insurance from highly-regulated private providers. They describe it as "private health insurance with social conditions". Insurers are tightly regulated for quality, provision of basic services, and to prevent discrimination, as they are required to accept everyone in their coverage area at a flat rate, no matter what their health status.

Discrimination is treating people the same differently. Discrimination is not treating people that are different, differently.

I DO NOT WANT TO SUBSIDIZE, SMOKER, ALCHIES, CRACK HEADS, 500 lb'ers ETC.

This reeks of communism.

Do you even know what the word discriminate means etta?

If anything this actually discriminates against the healthy.

OK, sure the private sector is good for one thing: Competition. Sometimes, though, competition isn;t the answer. Look at healthcare costs in this country. They're out of control, and it's privately run. I believe that if we could actually get the government to function the way it should (BAAAAAHAHAHAHA ok, back to being serious) they could be the ones to handle information quickly, to provide care, to actually make a system that works. Where people are not denied life saving treatments over things like money. Where pharmaceuticals are reasonable (my wife is a pharmacy technician, so I do know some about this stuff). Where people are treated as equals, as humans, not rated on a number scale and treated as such. Where I won't need to pay $1500 a month or so (guesstimate, I have leg issues, smoked for a few years, drink alcohol once in a while, eat red meat, and don't have the steadiest, healthiest diet) for simply INSURANCE, not care. /rant

I can give you reasons why healthcare costs are out of control. The government and it's liberal regulations. The fact that illegals walk into an emergency room and get top notch quality health care for free.... oh... wait a minute... it can't be FREE... yep... you and I pay for it with inflated health care costs.
I work in a hospital. I see it everyday.

Illegals should be dealt with in a timely manner: Drop them off at a hospital in Mexico. Then to a prison in Mexico, where they manufacture things for us under constant scrutiny. Stuff like light bulbs, license plates, stuff the government needs but shouldn't spend as much as it does on.

Damn, and I was holding out hope for you.

Prices of things direct resources more efficiently than any government could.
