Exclamation Effectively Immediately, Back Open for All Political Issues

NEW:

Alright. I've decided to temporarily see how things go allowing *all political* issues again.

Just fair warning. I will be dropping the *permanent* ban hammer with extreme prejudice.

* There will not be any warning.
* There will be no three strikes and you're out.

If I feel you've violated the CofC or you're skirting the CofC on purpose, I will lay down the law and you will be permanently banned.

PV will be run like a benevolent dictatorship.

Cheers,
Kermee

OLD:

Hi All,

You all knew this was coming. PV has grown outside the scope of what XDTalk represents.

Effectively immediately, all PV posts must be related directly to firearms, guns rights and/or 2A issues only. Any deviation from it will result in the immediate deletion of your thread.

Multiple infractions will result either in a permanent ban from the Political View forum and may be escalated to a permanent ban from XDTalk all together.

Thank you.

EDIT: We're going to try this for a week. If this doesn't work, PV will be shut down completely.

Isn't that what the gun policy forum is for?

That sucks, glad I didn't donate.

If PV is restricted to gun stuff, is there really a need for it anymore? All the things listed are covered by other sections of the forum.

Wasn't the point of PV to have a place to put threads that were political but outside the scope of gun rights/2a?

I honestly don't see the need to shut down PV like this. A stronger hand with the membership who send threads off track would have sufficed...

i think a good idea would be a section where anything goes. if you post in it you are willing to accept that it can get ugly. anyone who cant stay on topic and play nice would be restricted to it for political posts. then those who are polite and stay on topic can have the pv.

+1...I'm amazed that people can't act like adults (giving and recieving).

We've tried that since this section was re-opened in March 2008. History repeated itself. That is why I'm actually very close to just shutting this entire section down, permanently.

Myself and the moderators have much better things to do than to moderate disputes in this section and made out looking like the bad guys when we drop the ban hammer. I gave almost everyone here free reign over PV and it was abused in the end again.

I agree. The PV is honestly the only thing that has kept me here because of how much I enjoy a good, healthy, political debate.

It seems like this is akin to killing a fly with a rocket launcher. Don't get me wrong, I'll respect the rules here as I've always done.......but there really is nothing keeping me here besides the PV. I am not naive enough to think that will have any effect on you guys, but it will have a pretty big effect on me. I enjoy this place very much.

A small handful of folks began posting a large amount of drivel. Please do not let a handful of bad apples ruin it for the majority who does obey the rules.

I doubt anyone here looks at you or the mods as "bad guys" for dropping the ban hammer. I haven't seen a single CoC obeying poster banned. One of the best things about the place is that we could reliably count on you guys if we were forced to report someone for breaking the rules. Even in the recent thread on how topics were being hijacked to the point where it was nearly impossible to have an honest discussion, you and the mods here received nothing but praise for the hands off approach you were taking.

Please, let us continue to moderate ourselves in the PV. If we cannot have a discussion about moderation of ourselves in the PV, then how can we correct it? About an hour ago I sent out PMs to the individuals doing most of the thread hijacking asking them to stop...to which I received positive replies. We're all adults here.

If this is the problem then why not have some of us who are on here quite a bit moderate the PV.

I'd gladly volunteer to do it and would rather see some volunteer mods for PV only than see the whole thing go away.

Okee dokee. My Nomex boxers were starting to chafe, anyway.

An option I would also support over doing away with the PV.
