SWORDLESS SAILORS
Graduating midshipmen of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis are being told in writing to leave at home or in their vehicles all "ceremonial swords" and anything else "that might be considered a weapon or a threat by screeners" for Friday's outdoor commencement ceremonies featuring an address by President Barack Obama.
Inside the Beltway has obtained the academy's list of prohibited items for this year's graduation exercises, which, besides ceremonial swords, includes umbrellas.
Yes, cell phones and texting are still allowed.
Just what exactly does the "Commander-in-Chief" fear from his new military officers??

The President gave a very nice commencement speech, if you missed it.
A sword is a weapon, so these are understandable precautions for any president.
The president usually doesn't manage security precautions, the Secret Service does. I'm sure the USNA also had something to do with setting this policy for the event. Obama has consistently shown no reluctance at all to mingle close in with any audience he has encountered, and I'm pretty confident that the SS and the USNA anticipated he might want to do the same at the graduation if this happened.

As their "Commander" perhaps he should have worn a sword also.
Does anyone know of any historical precendent for a President addressing members of the military and requiring them to disarm? What happens when he eats with the troops in Afghanistan and Iraq?
Come on M-Road...didn't you hear...when he flew into Iraq for a visit, all Soldiers had to turn in their weapons and ammo for a day. All aviation was grounded...and the rat bastards insurgents were sworn to a one day peace accord....
Seriously Man...you need to get a grip and start using Google more. This TOTUS is the anti-christ~the internet told me so!

See above, I have a cousin who's friend is a contractor who works for KBR in Kuwait...he gave me the skinny.

LOL! Good points! What was I thinking? After all, each and every member of the service is solid, well grounded, even tempered, and wouldn't think to do harm to anyone, would they.
(I wonder how that soldier who killed those other soldiers in Iraq a few days ago is doing?)
