As I said before, the Secret Service is responsible for the POTUS' safety. He pretty much goes and does what they tell him to do at events, and he has to entrust his own safety to them. They are the experts. I'm also certain that the Secret Service does not run the USNA or its directives regarding the wear and appearance of uniforms.

We make a long presumption also that swords and umbrellas were not allowed because of some perceived or potential threat to the president, when in fact, it may have been someone deciding that swords would not be worn for a completely different reason unrelated to the president's safety. Swords are, after all, an archaic weapon during the 21st century, and are relegated to ceremonial use only, and then it is the Commandant's discretion when they are to be worn and for what occasion. As far as umbrellas go, it could have likely been that someone asked if they could bring one, and the notice was put out to everyone, so that all got the same word. In the case of both sword or umbrella, cadets and midshipmen follow the dictates of the uniform of the day selected by the person responsible for making that selection. This is usually the Commandant of Cadets or equivelent.

As much as some on this PV would like to think that Obama is reviled universally throughout the rank and file of the military, I can assure you that nothing could be farther from the truth in spite - I can also assure you - of anyone here or elsewhere saying otherwise. Likewise, I acknowledge that there are and will always be those in the military who dislike him (or any president from any party) for political or other reasons, but our military professionals are just that, professionals, and only those who are undisciplined would say or do anything publically to disparage either the elected office or the man or woman who holds it while they are wearing the uniform.

This is another obvious case of someone starting something equal to picking fly poop out of pepper.

I do not know your own service record or whether you even bothered to serve, but I do know what we used to do with those who acted the way that you do on this forum toward others, and you would not have liked it one bit.

You sir, are no more of a 'patriot' or 'defender of the constitution' than I am Superman, and I hope one day that you will truly know what it is like to have served your country and honor those who do. It is evident to me and others here as well that you are nothing more than hollow words and belicose fluff. I also most seriously believe you have a disorder of some kind, and several others I have spoken with off line have the same suspiscions. I sincerely urge you to seek the counsel of a professional who is trained to make a definite diagnosis and assist you.
