Both PSC and myself are combat veterans, and I can assure you that we each hold our serving members of the US armed forces in the highest regard. Your uncalled for and callous statement is insulting not only to me (and I'm sure PSC as well), but to every service member and veteran on this forum.

I do not know your own service record or whether you even bothered to serve, but I do know what we used to do with those who acted the way that you do on this forum toward others, and you would not have liked it one bit.

You sir, are no more of a 'patriot' or 'defender of the constitution' than I am Superman, and I hope one day that you will truly know what it is like to have served your country and honor those who do. It is evident to me and others here as well that you are nothing more than hollow words and belicose fluff. I also most seriously believe you have a disorder of some kind, and several others I have spoken with off line have the same suspiscions. I sincerely urge you to seek the counsel of a professional who is trained to make a definite diagnosis and assist you.

Any response you make to this will not be attended to by me.

Have a nice day!
I respect your service, but not your words in this thread ... You sound like Etta as you talk about me.

So as you like to say ... Have a nice day.

Have a great and safe weekend. Thanks for your service and I mean that with the utmost respect.
I'm sorry you see it that way, and while having served does bring with it a different level of realization, having served in battle does not make someone better than someone who has not.

FWIW, having served just makes a person different, and I truly mean that ... All people are different, but service under any circumstance does not automatically make a person better than someone else.

I also wish you a great and safe weekend, and I mean that with the same level of respect you offer to me.

Mr AZ-

Just stop right there. I never said anything of the sort and you know it--your bait methods in an attempt to paint me as an elitist is unfair and I hope folks take the time to read the entire thread. You don't have a clue who I am or how I feel--so just knock it off please. If you have any further opinions on the topic, feel free to hit me up on the PM.

Thanks,

Then perhaps you should choose your words more carefully, and possibly express your questions better, because when you wrote this,

Thanks,
I perceived a bit of elitism on your part due to it's off-topic nature.

Perhaps we should stop reading between the lines and stick to the written portion?

Those perceptions are a dangerous thing, I assumed the way you jumped all over the thread concerning our troops on the ground that maybe you were going to offer us a first hand account on how security is handled around the POTUS and DV's while in a combat zone. My bad.

Thanks,

Hmm... If the commander in chief of the entire military has to worry about a potential assassination during a graduation ceremony, maybe it's time to start taking the mental and physical health of those in uniform seriously. It's a grave failure of our own humanity that we don't take the health and welfare of our men and woman in uniform near as serious as we should. They are witness to the worst of mankind, and if the local VA hospital is indicative of the rest we're giving them mediocre considerations at best when it comes to their well being.

Thanks for your concern, but I imagine it has more to do with our CiC not trusting his subordinates more than fearing for their mental well being.

In a combat zone, it would be prudent that everyone other than his security team be disarmed, but at Annapolis? Not sure that the midshipmen will see it as a precaution or as an afront to tradition.

I'd say there is a very real mental health aspect to it. You'd have to be crazy to actually try and make a run at the president with a sword in front of all those people and SS agents. You'd also have to be mentally deranged to have such a bloated ego to think that those graduating are going to soil the honor of what very well may be the most distinct and honorable day of their lives by trying to kill you. To me, suspending tradition in a military ceremony of this sort is a blatant slap in the face to every man and woman who's served. While I don't believe that the security of the president is to be taken lightly, so long as he is the president he should be respectful of military tradition and uphold it.
