No Tom, I do not. Nor do I want my government to have a free hand into my personal affairs.
So you feel that it's not ok for criminals and terrorists to spy on you. And you don't want the government to spy on you....mmmmm....how can the government catch criminals and terrorists then?

How is the government having a free hand into your personal affairs? Or are you just speculating?

Tom
As gun owners we live by the following amendment to the US Constituion:

Quote:
Amendment II - Right to bear arms. Ratified 12/15/1791.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
We fight tooth and nail to make sure the government does not infringe upon this right.

Yet you seem to be advocating an infringement of this amendment:

Quote:
Amendment IV - Search and seizure. Ratified 12/15/1791.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
Our founding fathers did not want the government to have the ability to wantonly spy on us.

Should we just do away with this amendment? The fact that we have nothing to hide does not make it OK for the govenment to spy on us. It's unconstitutional.
Over many decades the people of this country decided to control guns, through their elected representatives.

Blame the people of this country, or actively promote who you want in office to make or change legislation. That's what the Constitution intended.

What does a discussion on the recent spying controversy have to do whith our second amendment rights? Or are you just extrapolating that everything you feel is bad is the government's fault?

Abortion isn't in the Constitution , so how come the Supreme Court forced us to make it legal?

Neither of us is an expert in interpreting the Constitution or Constitutional law, so simply quoting it does not prove your's or my point.

I'm not talking about abortion (or the right to privacy which incidentally is also not in the constitution) and I make no claim to being a constitutional law expert. That does not preclude me from analyzing a situation and fomulating an informed opinion about it.

I'm simply noting that your position appears to be inconsistent. Granted, I do not know your actual position regarding the rights guaranteed by the 2nd amendment. I am inferring that you value your 2nd amendment rights by your presence on this website, and the fact that you own a firearm. I could be wrong.

I just happen to believe that my 4th amendment rights deserve as much protection as my 2nd amendment rights do.

If a governmental entity decides to attempt to infringe on one of my constitionally protected rights, I will fight to defend them. This is not to be construed as anti-governmental in any way. The fact is that the amendments are restrictions on government, so government is the only entity that can infringe upon those rights.

The neo-con right-wing christian extremist fraidy-cats have invited the government to tap our phones, trace our internet activity and view our mail with no oversight. This, they say, will save us from attacks by Bin Laden. This boogey-man has them so frightened that they will gladly hand over their constitutional rights if the gub'mint promises to protect them from "the monster in the closet". How weak-in-the-knees can these people be? Weak enough to give away their freedom for a government promise from a coke-head that claims he gets messages from God.

+1 If the gov't spied on me, the only part that would irritate me is that I helped pay for it. Other than that, they could use an assignment to my case as a means to work on keeping their newbees awake. If they bugged my house & office, they'd conclude - 'damn, this guy has some sort of digestive disorder or he eats beans for breakfast'

BTW - why has the press been calling this "domestic spying" when the only bit of it uncovered to date is calls going to or coming in this country from another country and from a known associate of the terrorists?

WOW......is this how most folks on the left coast think? If so, put down the "hollywood tabloids" ........ the Enquire and the Star will rot your brain, then the ghost of Soupy Sales will have a baby with Angelina Jolie and it will produce movies in the land of fruits and berries. And in the political section where this crap info comes from, you'll also see that hillary clintoon and susan sarandon are lovers and are plotting to move to san francisco to raise the babies spawned by clooney and the alien equivalent of barbra striesand........c'mon now

Yes, it would be ok.

If they spied on me it would be because they have a damn good reason. Who in their right mind would want to spy on my exciting life is beyond me.

I alway route my calls through several countries when I want to talk to my mother in Ia. Rates are cheaper that way.
