Army raises enlistment age

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The US Army said it has raised its maximum enlistment age from 35 to 40 years old and is doubling signing up bonuses to a high of 40,000 dollars.

The measures are the latest in a series of steps the army has taken over the past year to offset a slump in recruiting as it faces ongoing campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The army failed to hit its recruiting goal of 80,000 new recruits in fiscal 2005. Recruiting figures have since improved but the the war in Iraq has made it difficult to meet the demand for fresh soldiers.

Thats good news for those who were once perfectly able to reinlist but couldnt because of age.

It's good to see that after 35 you can still VOLUNTEER to serve your country in the most honorable way possible.

Wow, what a great opportunity for people in the 35 to 40 age bracket!

Go Army!

The army has met most of its recruiting goals lately.

December makes the 7th consecutive month that they have met their goals.

Sure, because they now take the old, the criminal, and the chemically enhanced. What would have happened if they still maintained their standards?

Right.

Section 311 of US Code Title 10, entitled, "Militia: composition and classes" in its entirety:

"(a) The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard.

I don't see a problem here.

Oh? Advocating a draft here? "...all able-bodied....."

Can't have it both ways, Frenchy.

Well I for one am seriously considering reenlisting. Even at 37 I can still do it, so why not? I alrready have 6 years, so I could still retire by 51. Hmmmm not a bad thought!
