But Mom,is Sunday dinner still on?

"Texas Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn announced on Monday she will run for governor against incumbent Republican Rick Perry.

Strayhorn has been Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts since 1998. She is the mother of White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan and of Mark McClellan, who is currently director of Medicare for the Bush Administration.

Strayhorn has been a harsh critic of Perry's leadership over the past several years. She has described Perry as "a weak leadin', ethics ignorin', pointin' the finger at everyone blamin', special session callin', public school slashin', slush fund spendin', toll road buildin', special interest panderin', rainy day fund raidin', fee increasin', no property tax cuttin', promise breakin', do nothin' phony conservative."

*********

Sounds like a strong woman.

Ugh...don't get me started on this woman.

Sure, she has opposed Rick Perry (of which I have no love for...don't get me wrong!), but this woman is exactly what is wrong with politics in Texas today.

Did you know she has changed parties twice, before? Yeah..switched when it was convenient and only really to extend her life on the public dole. Yes, this woman hasn't worked in the private sector for over 30 years. She has done whatever is necessary to preserve her career in politics...NOT what is best for her constituents. Actually, these are several people like this on both sides of the aisle in Austin and in DC and this is a huge factor in why our govt. and political party system is so screwed up. From Kenedys to Bushs, some powerful opewrators see political office as a way to open the floodgates for their well-connected buddies, avoid having to compete in the private sector (of which most DC insiders did poorly) and collect a fat retirement plan and lots of goodies.

To a non-Texan (especially one who hates Bush), I can see how this woman, who stands up against a lackluster, pseudo-conservative, Bush-lite governor like Rick Perry MAY seem appealing, but Strayhorn would be nothing more than a continuance of the same old sh*t and frankly, I am tired of it. She's gotta go. Just another career politician.

Me? I am voting for Kinky Friedman. Seriously! He is a total outsider, not a puppet of corporate interests and tells it like it is. He reminds me alot of Jesse Ventura. If you're really tired of the same old same old..Richard "Kinky" Friedman looks pretty good.

Besides, I love his slogan - "I may not be worth a damn, but I'm better than what you got."

Classic,

- Brickboy240

PS - Strayhorn is no friend of the Texas taxpayer...don't be fooled by this wonam's bloviating. Our fuel taxes have steadily increased every year and she has never come out and siad she was for a cap on property tx appraisals (a big problem in Texas right now).

Strong woman with a big mouth. But she's right about Perry. He'll have a toll booth in everyone's driveway if he gets his way. He sold out to big business. She also signed up as an Independent. I think she cut her own throat when she did that. She don't like guns so pee on her. I'm voting for Kinky.

Perry's dealings on the Trans TX Corrodor were dismal. Giving the construction contract to a firm from Spain, over one based in Texas? Bad news! He also has done nothing about border security and was pretty damn mum about giving property owners a cap on appraisals.

However, he did manage to give the Texas Congressman a 25% increase in their pension funds, sign a bill that benefitted the telecommunications industry and was pretty silent when the TX legislature tried to pass that tax break for the pharmaceutical industry.

Chosing between Perry and Strayhorn is be like a choice between airline food and hospital food. Crappy, either way!

I actually know of people of both political stripes that are behind Kinky Friedman. The lawyer across the street has a bumper sticker that reads "My Governor is a Jewish Cowboy."

Thats how it SHOULD be. People of both sides coming together for whats best for the state, not partisan party type crap. Haven't we seen enough of htis on the national level? We may not be able to control it nationally, but maybe we can meet in the middle in our own state. If its going to happen anywhere - its going to happen in Texas.

Yep, we need more strong women in politics. Strong women of impeccable character like Secretary of State Dr. Condoleezza Rice and Ohio Congresswoman Jean Schmidt.

These two Republican women are shining examples of what is good about conservative moral values.
