We must force them to discuss a constitutional right...not a recreational activity that less than 25% of the gun-owning public participate in.
But why leave this up to the Democrats? The Republicans hold all the marbles and supposedly the Second Amendment is their bread and butter.

Why try to shape the opposing party's platform when you can do it from your end?

Because bd, the ball is in their court. The anti-gun entities do not emanate from the Right...they come from the LEFT.
They suggest that they respect our 2nd. Amendment rights, and in the same breath start discussing hunting guns. This is exactly what Kerry did in the campaign.
I don't for a minute get a warm and fuzzy feeling from the Republicans on this issue, but they aren't the immediate threat.

But what I'm trying to say is the Republicans could take this issue completely away from the Democrats if they wanted to.

They could shut the issue down completely and claim one heckuva victory.

That's what I don't get. It seems they would rather fight about the issue when they have the power to settle it.

True...Failure to discuss what they say, and what they mean has been lost here.

Maybe that's why I spend little time in the political forum...I hate circular debate.

Holy COW!

Liberal Democrat Mayor of Chicago Richard M. Daley just used the same Liberal extremist justification code phrase for gun control that bd made - "common sense".

Is this scary or what.

Bd and Mayor Daley are both calling for “common sense” gun laws.

Daley says he'll continue push for gun laws
January 4, 2006

CHICAGO Chicago Mayor Richard Daley says he'll continue to push for what he calls common-sense gun legislation.

Daley says stricter gun laws would help continue the decline of Chicago's crime rate. He noted that Chicago has posted two consecutive years with fewer than 500 homicides for the first time since 1965.

Daley also mentioned four laws he'd like to see passed in Springfield.

One would require guns in homes with children under 18 to either be disassembled and put in a locked box or outfitted with a trigger lock.

Another would limit handgun purchases to one per person per month.

The third would ban semi-automatic assault weapons and 50-caliber rifles, and Daley adds that he'd also like gun dealers to be licensed by the state of Illinois.

Daley spoke today at a news conference at Chicago police headquarters.

Now we know bd’s definition of “common sense” gun control laws, right from the horse’s mouth – Liberal Democrat Mayor Richard M. Daly of Chicago.

Wow, bd’s liberal pal Mayor Daley could one day be responsible for destroying our beloved Springfield Arms Co. located near Chicago by passing more “common sense” gun control laws.

Thanks a lot bd.

All we can do here is beat each other to death and write our congressmen/women. Why we come here and try to disassemble each other is a mystery to me. We are gun owners, were suppose to be on the same side. Yet we beat on each other just as venomously as we do the anti gunners.

From the original article posted...

Quote:
“On gun rights, we’ve allowed the Republicans to paint us in a way that just doesn’t represent our values,” said Damien LaVera, a Dean spokesman, noting that Republicans have repeatedly portrayed Democrats as hostile to the Western way of life.

“It’s all about not letting the Republicans define our values,” LaVera said.
That's what I was getting at, why do the Republicans want to try to define the Democrat's position when the Republicans can do what they want with gun control.

Take the entire issue away from the Democrats and claim victory.

I guess no one read the article?
