A lot of us, myself included, are running Warren tactical rears designed for Sigs in their XDs. What makes these different?

Just curious, are there plans for Warren sights for the XD with tritium inserts? I'm ordering a set to run on my 34 and would love to run a set of these with the tritium inserts on my XD-45.

Old School, I sent an email to Warren Tactical. I'll post back with the reply.
cougar_guy04, if you want night sights badly enough on an XD with a Warren rear, you could probably send off the slide to Tooltech Gunsight and have them fit the tritium inserts for you. It costs (I believe) about $50 per insert, so your total would be about $150 if you factor in the cost of the Warren sight. I've only heard good things about their work, but if you're a "budget oriented" person like me, I'd just throw a front white outline night sight on the gun and get Warren rear from PistolGear (which is about the only place I've seen them), and call it good.

Reply for Scott Warren
Just received an email back from Scott Warren (excellent products and excellent CS, I think Warren Tactical just gained a customer for life, and I got an explanation for why all my Sig stuff works on the XD):
Springfield bought the design for the XD from SIG. When SIG designed the gun, they did it so they could use their existing SIG sights. Sounds like good business to me. So basically the same sights work in both guns. However with the current Warren Tactical SIG 220/226 rear, the one you have on your XD, when used on the SIG, there is a gap between the bottom of the sight and the top of the slide. It has absolutely no effect when shooting the gun, it's just an esticics thing and I do not like to see those gaps. I modified the SIG sight, trying to lower the bottom of the sight so it makes slight contact with the top of the XD slide. With the new batch of XD sights that I have in, I believe that I've accomplished that goal. Again, the sight just looks better on the gun when it fits flush with the slide. The hard thing about the SIG slides, is that they are rounded and not flat, like the XD, Glock and the M&P. So I and others will always have a bit of a gap. But again, it makes no difference when shooting the pistols. As for fitting the sights, both the SIG and XD, I've found that if you take off (file) about .005 from the bottom of the dovetail that the sights fit well. After all the above, I'm glad that you like the Warren Tactical sightsa and that they work for you. FYI, I'm working on M&Ps, 1911s, and refining the XDs and SIGs. Train hard, Shoot hard, Scott Warren

Does a gunsmith have to install this sight? I am thinking of pairing one of these with a HiViz sight on the front on my XD-9.

It is a DIY job if you have the correct tools and knowledge. If not, best to have a Gunsmith do the work. OS
