Yeah thats what I thought too, so I tried that a few times, loosing the screws and tapping it down flush with a plastic mallet then tighten the screws back, but everytime I tightened the screws down it would creep back up so after doing that 3 times I said screw it and grinded the clips down. I do believe though that you are right, if it was closer to the gun the clearance would not be much of any issue. But I really like the part and hats off to the R&D that went into it.
