ported to non ported

New guy here......I have an XD 40 V10 and carried it for a while on duty. I love the set up but after a few night shooting at the range I found out that my front sight ( night sights ) goes night-night after a few rounds, this is due to the gas coming out from the ports...So I decided to carry my 1911, until about a week ago I check the pistol gear web site and they had the semi drop in barrel in stock. I quickly ordered my barrel and is now here with me. I should have ask some questions before buying the thing but I got excited and bought it. So now here comes the questions.

1. can I switch between the ported and non ported barrel as I wish without damaging the frame or slide of the pistol. I guess the reason I ask is because " less metal on the frame yet more recoil since the gas are no longer being diverted up "....would this be a problem.

thanks for the info.

well the chanes of your slide cracking might be higher but that is still a possibility with using the ported barrel and i dont think it will make a big difference because the ports lower muzzle rise and not recoil it feels like less but the slide is still comeing back at the same speed or at least VERY close to it.
and if your slide does crack from what i have read SA will replace it with a regular one if you ask. a few members have done that here but i dont have the thread it was in.
i would say use the regular barrel and if your slide cracks then just dont tell SA you had a aftermarket non-ported barrel in it put the ported one back in and send it back.

and if you dont use the non-ported barrel then your xd is going to be a safe queen so whats the point in that.

use the new barrel and deal with a broken slide if or when it happens

Installing one of our Drop-In barrels will have no adverse affect on your slide. It is does crack, and some have cracked, SA will take care of it. SA is good people and the XD warranty is solid!
