Another Satisfied Pistol-gear.com customer!

Ok, first of all the shipping time was excellent, and having now spent a few shells down the range I have to say the investment was WELL worth it on Don's guide rod and the 22# spring. I'll be getting a 24# here shortly though, cause now that I've reduced the recoil quite a bit, I'd like to see just how much more I can bleed out of it. Only issue I have is with the Pachmyer grips. Put them on, trimmed to allow for the grip safety, but its like the XD's grip is too small for them, so the pachmyer wants to twist in the hand when firing, thus causing a rather serious lack of confidence in control in the weapon. Any advice on what I can do to tighten the slack out of them? The grips I don't feel are at fault, they're doing their job, I just don't think they're a solid match. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Matthew

Matt,

The pac grip should fit the XD grip very snuggly. That said, because there is no adhesive holding it in place, it could twist if intended. That said, I have not heard of this issue before. Perhaps others have this same issue?

Another option is Rubber Decal Grips. They stay in place and are a great product. The sand version is equally great, however neither offer the finger grooves like the Pac Grip.

Yea, I was nervous about putting a sticker on the side of my XD and it wearing off. Perhaps I just need to suck it up and force myself to get accustomed to the unmodified grip. Main reason I instantly bought the Pachmyer is because I have a set on my Ruger that make that gun a super pleasure to shoot and control. The only prob really is the Pach's wanting to crawl up the grip safety, then when I trimmed it, it wants to climb higher. So I'm not sure if I should keep trimming until it stops wanting to move or what? They seem like rather nice grips, just like the ones on my Ruger, so its definitely not a quality issue. Perhaps somebody has some tips on how to get these nice and snug. Perhaps I should shim them with something? At this point I've already cut the grips, so there's no going back. Worst case is I ruin them in trying to obtain a better fit, so if anybody has any tips, feel free to let me know

Matthew

PS - Will look at the website about the decal grips. If they're "sandpaper" grips, what grit sandpaper would you say they feel like? I have about 30 grit grades here so I'm sure I can get a feel of it here if you can describe it.

Ok, searched the forums some more and looks like most folks who get the Decal Grips are pretty satisfied with them, so given that I don't want there to be any possibility of a 'failure" of the grip safety system (one of the reasons I got the XD), I think I'll be placing an order for a set of the sand style after once payday (yea, I know, they're only like $9 plus shipping, but hey, I've been buying gun stuff the last two weeks ) and we'll see how those do. One great thing about this forum, if the product exists, it seems somebody here somewhere at sometime has given their opinion of it. Its great!

Thanks again,
Matthew

80 grit-like. If you prefer the feel of rubber, the rubber grips are nice too.

As for the Pac Grip, you can try adding some double-stick tape in a few spots around the edge.

Msidner:

The Hogue slip on does the same thing...it will move up the grip and eventually cover the grip safety...when this happens...you may not notice it until you pick up the gun and it fires around without having a good grip or if your drawing your weapon, you may grab the trigger in error and have ahell of a hole on your foot or ???. I have the hogue on mine but it will be coming off as soon as I get some decal grips. Until then I just check the grip after each mag.

Ok, so its not just me then, and its not the Pach if the hogue does the same thing. Yea, the more I read about it, I'm thinking I either need to get the Decals, get used to the Pach's failures on the grip safety (which is hard to do), or get used to the plain grip. Heh. Thanks for the info Rikoshey!

The rubber Decal Grips are a bit thicker than the sand version, adding a bit more girth to the grip over the sand. Something else to consider, if you are going for a lean handle.
