PistolGear's Updated Trigger Kit & Service Write-up

Let me be honest in saying that I was a bit dismayed when I recently saw a slight price bump for the PistolGear Trigger Kit for 45ACP as I'd been 'window shopping' over a few months and never committed. Lucky for me (and you guys!), upon further inspection, that small increase was totally worth it as it now includes a the Polished version of Springer Precision's Sear and that nice Canyon Creek Spring Kit with Striker Springs as part of the package - Very cool!

I received the package very quickly and tried my luck at installing it myself right away - I'm always up for a fun impromptu project! It was my first time taking the XD apart completely (great instructions from xd-hs2000.com), but it only took about an hour and a half (should take about 30mins after first time), but I also took part of this time to clean up and polish some of the interior parts (Feed Ramp cleanup, Sear face, Ejector Top, Firing Pin Safety Lever Top & Guide Rod End) to look nice & smooth. The Grip Safety spring is was PITA and took a few tries (and one entire disassembly session!) to catch as it sometimes wouldn't return the safety to normal, but all in all I feel it was a successful and quite rewarding learning experience.

I'm sure those springs need a few sessions to break in and get settled, but I can certainly already tell the difference - REALLY SMOOTH pull with a nice, clean break!!!

Just wanted to say thanks to PistolGear & OldSchool for such great service & fast shipping!

Here are a few pics, Enjoy!:

Sear Components Install with polished faces:

Guide Rod End Cleanup (needs more, I know, but I'm tired. )

i will post a pic later but i highly recomend doing this
ok i did the same kit you did and i loved but i needed to do something with the overtravel so the spot where they usually put the over travel screw i put some epoxy i had to do about three layers of it any ways i squared it off and grinded it down untill the i got to the point the trigger broke. it sucked haaving to take the gun apart and put it back together about ten times but since i could leave the sear group alone it really wasnt that hard the trigger is just amazing now. i removed the firing pin block as aposed to modifing it which sometimes you have to do with the trigger jobs on these guns. like i said i will post pics i just dont have my camera at the moment

Just a bit of Flitz and a Dremel Stylus!

I didn't go all-out mirror finish just yet (I may do so later), I just wanted to brighten it up a bit and clean up the parts where the bluing/melonite was wearing off, no biggie.

Isn't this disabling a major safety feature of the pistol? I don't fool around with modifying my pistol, so I know next to nothing about these things, but that doesn't sound safe. Or I am not understanding what you did.

Looking forward to a range report on this.

Well I've already gone once (day after installed a few weeks back) for a quick 50rds. Worked real nice & smooth, groups improved for sure - but honestly while I'm at the range, I never even thought of the trigger - like I didn't even notice it.. it almost felt like the way it should, if that makes any sense. 1 FTF though, but I feel it may have been a limp wrist.

I went again today and bought 100rds & 2 targets. This time, saying it wasn't as forgiving was an understatement. Had to return 1 target & box of 50rds. I got around 6-7 FTF's/FTE's over 50 rds. Not good. Took it aprat a few times there. 2 types of general failures I noticed (trigger would lock in each instance): 1. Looked like a backwards stovepipe; the tip (bullet) never made it to the the block while the rear casing ring was fed where it's supposed to be (think: rear [==\ ==> front). 2. The other error I encountered was simply a failure to extract, causing a second round to be pushed up from the mag as well. Never did it feel like it was a problem with the trigger, sear or trigger springs though!

So this is what I did to test it today when I got back: I loaded a few mags with snapcaps and racked the slide over and over very quickly (simulating rapid fire, in various speeds). About 2-3 rds in every mag didn't eject. Felt like perhaps the slide wasn't getting enough 'push' to eject properly. Checked the mag springs for shape/compression (looked fine) and reverted the Canyon Creek's Striker Spring & Striker Safety Spring back to the stronger stock SA ones. Tried the same procedure over a few times in varying speeds. Only had 1 FTE after 6 mags, and I feel that may have been my fault for slightly covering the extractor/cocked waaay too fast. Trigger still felt the same - as Borat would say, "Very Niiice"

I'll test tomorrow morning @ range and post a followup. Hopefully that will clear up at least some of the issues. Hope this helps, JT!

Interesting. My XD45 compact is my only semi auto and only pistol in a caliber capable of being a self-defense pistol. I can't afford to have it be unreliable. I'm bummed that Pistol Gear doesn't have the trigger bar for over travel and reset for the XD45s yet.

I'm interested in doing some polishing on my own to the stock parts to make things a bit smoother, if possible.

Once they become available, we will have them. They are a few weeks out yet.
