Old School

Before reading this thread I was unaware that a fat non-captive tungsten rod existed for the 4" XD. But it seems that there was one and the spring didn't last which is holding up production of more. Now it seems that people are requesting a duplicate guide rod machined from tungsten with the stock spring.

1. Are either options going to be available again?

2. Sign me right up for one when you do. Seriously, if you said tomorrow that you had one available I would buy one that day. A lot of us have been waiting a long time for this.

It's a shame that the 45 service should should be left out on this one.

Not anytime soon, I am afraid. A captive system would be quite expensive. It is also expensive for folks to R&D springs in order to find one that works. For now, we all need to wait.

So from what I understand it's a fat style non-captive guide rod machined from tungsten stock?

That sounds awesome. I'll say a prayer.

You are correct. Again, the Rod is the easy part. It is the spring that is the issue.

XD45 tac tungsten rod by C Creek

I have an XD45 tactical with Canyon Creek's tungsten guide rod, paired with stock spring. I have 2000+ rounds put through it already. Am I doomed??

The tactical is OK, as I understand it the problem is the 4" or shorter versions.

I have been reading and waiting to get my hands on the service 45acp tungsten guide rod, I am a reloader and shoot light target loads and I like the ability to to tune my load to the pistol. FTE/ stove pipes are just not fun for a range day. Any way I read that the recoil spring is wearing out after 2,000 rounds and thats why this recoil rod is not being sold. I just have to ask a question, has any one tried a ISMI 1911 flat spring? They are cheep and I have never wore one out really, but I am not sure if you could get the correct length your looking for.

I know that Rich at Canyon Creek has tried many springs, not sure if that is one of them.
