DGR and spring question
Ordered a DGR and a #22 Wolf spring, leather holster and new ear protection on Sunday, and everything got here today. Quick turnaround guys, thanks.
Question, I have looked at the video tutorial and I seem to be missing a washer. I have an XD45acp Tactical. I actually got the spring and rod in without a washer, but it looks like the spring is about to pop out of the front. Would someone please let me know if i need the washer or not, maybe i was supposed to order it seperately, or it was left out. Thanks 4>----> |

It does not sound like you have the correct rod. The rod for the 9mm/.40 tactical does not use a bushing. The fatty rod for the .45ACP does not need one either, but the skinny rod for the .45ACP (lets you use standard 1911 springs) needs a bushing. What does your packing list show?
A way to tell what is in your hands is the head diameter of the .45ACP rod is slightly over 1/2", or about the same as the factory rod. The 9mm/40 rod is quite a bit smaller pretty close to 7/16" (it doesn't sound like much but visually it is quite a bit). |

my packing list says:
01DRA Don's Guide Rod & Spring For XD XD Model: Tactical (XD45ACP) Spring Weight: 22# Rating (Popular) there was no bushing either with the springs or the rod, and i thought i ordrered the skinny rod. unfortunately, my Vernier calipers are in my other pants so i cant take an exact measurement of the new rod, but it is noticeably thinner than the stock rod. what do you think? 4>----> |

That is the number Scott uses for the skinny rod. Don't worry about calipers, just compare the head diameter to your factory head, is it damned close (less than a sheet of paper difference) or big difference (more than a credit card thickness)?
I must confess that I provide no labeling on my ziplock bags so it can be easy to make a mistake on Scott's end. I need to do something on my end to help and I have not done so yet. If your head diameter is correct (near exact match of the factory) I may have mis-packed the product and I can send the bushing direct, if it is on the small size it may have been mis-picked and contact Scott. Either way we will make it right! |

Don, the last thing im worried about is that you or Scott would try to stiff me, or mislead anyone about yalls products. Yall have nothing but positive feedback on this board, and with the products yall provide and the excellent customer service i am anxiously awaiting the next innovation yall will come out with. Lets face it yall are rock stars.
Well it looks like i may have the wrong rod, the head is measureing 7/16". I guess it just got swapped somewhere along the way. Before we go shipping stuff back and forth though, i was wondering what benefit the Fat Rod gives over the Skinny. If its better, I may just upgrade since postage is being spent anyway. Or maybe i should buy a 9mm to go with my surplus guide rod. 4>----> Yall Count: 5 Last edited by 4arrows; 02-14-2007 at 08:24 PM. |

When I first did the fat rod, there was no indication that a spring maker would fill the gap, so I was working the skinny rod at the same time. Now that Wolff is doing springs for the factory/fat rod it is just a matter of choice. If you want springs that you can buy just about anywhere, the skinny rod is a good choice. If you don't mind the limited source for the "fat" spring, then the fat rod is good choice for added weight, and the springs should work fine on the stock rod too (have not tried it but see not reason that they would not work).
I think your idea is perhaps the best for all involved: buy a 9mm Tactical! |

I am guessing that we sent the standard Tactical Rod and not the Tactical Rod for the XD45ACP; hence no washer. Send me an e-mail at support@pistolgear.com and we will get the correct rod out to you today. If you would prefer the fat rod, let me know that too.
Sorry for the screw up. The error is mine. Scott

I sent you one yesterday Old School, i got the generic "check the FAQ" response today. I may as well go with the Fat Rod, as long as I dont need a new spring as well. Let me know how you want me to sent this other rod back. THanks again for good products and support
