Actually, they have used the fact that American Express isn't accepted EVERY WHERE in their commercials.

They used to show and talk about some fancy, cool place to go...like say the Olympics...and then they'd talk about a particular store/eatery that was popular there. Then they'd say "be sure to bring your VISA Card because so 'n so doesn;t accpet AMEX"!

I has mastercards and visa's in the past and just recently signed up for American Express because I thought it was supposed to be better than the others and excepted everywhere. Now I can't buy anything for my XD at the site I knew was good, I wand to order things now, and than pay off the card when I got my tax refund but guess that sure as hell ain't gonna happen. This is such crap.

We don't accept AMEX of Discover, sorry. Visa, MC, Money Order or Cashiers Check are all welcome.

Well Sam's club only accepted their in-house charge and Discover for the longest time, they're accepting MC as well now.

Debit cards that second as credit cards (MC/Visa "check cards") are DANGEROUS in all reality. I've yet to ever been asked to see the signature anywhere I've swiped any of my cards to compare. Furthremore, if they swipe your card, just tell them credit and no need for a PIN. Unlike most CC companies that will protect you on fraud, banks usually tell you tough ****. If you need a debit purchase, get a debit-only card which requires a PIN to be entered.

At one time, Sears only took Discover and their in-house charge, that changed quite a while ago.

This used to be more of an issue, but the banks are up to speed now. The bigger problem is that your checking account can get wiped out while the issue is getting resolved. That's obviously a lot bigger hassle than just having some unauthorized charges on a credit card. I only use my debit card for the ATM. Besides, I get rewards (gas gift cards) with my credit card.

I love my debit card. I will often use the card and type the pin in because it is faster then having to sign something.

American Express actually has a much better chargeback/dispute process than MC or VI.

Working in the hotel industry, I can tell you that whenever someone initiates a chargeback or disputes a charge, AX really goes to bat for the consumer. They are much more aggressive and they fight a lot harder than MC and VI do.

They require more documentation on the part of the business than other card companies.

you are only liable for up to $50 in almost every case.

Plus if I call my bank and report fraud, the money is back in my account within 24 hours, they go after the money.
