I just ordered an new spring and it is longer than the old one... haha...

Looks like the 18# are longer than the 16# ?? Logically that kinda makes sense, or am I missing something?

Interesting that SA would recommend a 18.5# replacement instead of a 16#. ??

18.5 is a good overall weight for factory loads. SA offers one spring for all calibers. Like most guns, you need to find a weight that is best for your loads, reliability and prefer feel.

That answers one aspect of my concerns. 16# is factory original, and given a small feed issue and slide not always returning fully to close/battery, I may just have needed a new 16#, but the 18.5# works fine.

Now... still having a feed issue, and looking at the magazines...

Any suggestions regarding a good magazine replacement?

Update: (post-spring-upgrade)

I recieved two mags with my SA-1911. One feeds everything fine, the other not-so-much. Noticed that the two mags are not quite identical.

So, I ordered two new SA mags. The new SA mags look identical to the old mag that works. So I have 3 mags that feed well.

Major primary difference noted. At mouth of the mag, the two bent 'curls/lips' that hold the rounds in the mag are properly and fully formed. My other mags don't have fully formed curls/lips like the SA ones.

So, $16/ea plus shipping from MidwayUSA and I have Mags that feed FMJs, HPs, and my lead-ball reloads. (I don't use wadcutters.)
