Buying my XD-45 C service was an easy choice over the .40 because of the limited number of rounds. This M version overcomes that. Now I have a reason to get an XD-40.

I likes. I'm just wondering if it the grip/gun is the same height as the XD Service .40. I've heard it will be announced this Friday (May 16) with an MSRP (black melonite) around $625. Hopefully that means we will be able to find em for $550 or so. I see a few for sale over at gun broker at pretty high prices...approaching $700 or more!

Anybody know when they will really be available? Couple weeks, maybe...hopefully.

They are already shipping. A couple of people here already have them.

At least they didn't mess it up completely like Beretta did with the 90-two. Someone on the Beretta design team has spent way too much time playing Perfect Dark.

Currently only available as a .40 and only in a 4.5" barrel length.. the happy medium between Service and tactical. I like the grip-- that's it... and I don't need to add another caliber to my reloading setup. If it comes out in the future as a .45 compact... I may get one for CCW... otherwise.. my .308 is next on the gettin' list.

This is silly. When I first saw it I thought "O great news, a beefed up XD". Then I heard it's $700. And I thought that I will be very happy for a very long time with my new XD 45 compact. But after watching the videos on SA's website I am really in love with this thing. The bigger serrations, match grade barrel, and easy takedown (without having to pull the trigger at all) makes it GUN PORN again!!!!!

This company just won't stop making it better and better. I just wish I could buy their stock... A thumb safety in .45 and I pay any price.

One of the videos on the website says they did.

I modify the above quote to state after I saw the all-black model the lines are not nearly as appealing as I thought when I saw it with the chrome slide. So I called SA and they will not be making a thumb safety on any other models other than on the 45 service any time soon. I will stick with the current model XD compact, (not the new one at any price).

I think its awesome

Unfortunately, I think its great looking. All the money I stuck into my 2 new XD 45's probably worth **** at this point. The new model will likely destroy the value of the original model one would think? Hum... that I don't like... But hey, thats the way it works. Out with the Old...,. In with the NEW!

If they put it out in 9mm I might buy it but I'm okay with my XD40 currently.
