Question: I haven't had the pleasure of actually seeing a tommy in real life, and know nothing about them. What is the ribbing on the barrel for where the VFG attaches? Is it designed to dissipate heat under full-auto?

Also, are they 45ACP chambered? Cuz, after one drum I'd be just about broke!

So tell me: Did you say the famous line just before you shot it for the first time???

Very nice! I am officially jealous!

Well... I had the option of ordering an SBR model, BUT...

1. The whole $200 tax stamp issue just torques me. It's not so much the money but it's the hassle of it all. It's also symbolic of how our gov't intervenes where it should have no business. I mean c'mon... If my rifle has a 16" bbl, I'm joe-blow average citizen, however, cut 1/2" off the bbl and I'm now subject to a rediculous tax rate, I have to fill out forms for a "mommy may I?" and get the ATF's blessing, AND I can't sell it to anyone else without them going through the same BS which is my second point.

2. Disposition of an SBR is an SOB. Some other poor soul will have to go through the same BS.

3. I can't cross any state line with the SBR without notifying the ATF AND the state/s that I would be crossing into.

All in all... SBR's are cool and I'd love to own one but not with the current laws the way they are. No thanks.

If I really want the Tommy in the SBR version, I'll settle for the pistol version.

Ironically, it's the same reciever with an SBR 10-1/2" bbl AND it comes with a 50rnd drum. BUT, it's not classified as a rifle because it has no stock therefore it's a PISTOL. No SBR tax stamp, no crossing state line hassles, no transfer hoops. Just like having an A1 deluxe model with a detachable stock... just no stock!

Did you fill out a form and ask the ATF's permission via the NICS check when you bought it? Just messing with you man. I think it's great either way, but I've looked into an SBR from Auto Ordnance and that's definitely the way I'd go. I've already got one SBR so another wouldn't be a huge hassle.

Yeah, the NICS check thing blows too. I've thought about getting an SBR at times, but I just don't want the hassle of contacting the 'man' everytime I want to cross a state line with it. I'm 20mins from KS and go back and forth all the time. If they ever do away with the NFA BS, I'll definitely get an SBR PDQ! I'm not holding my breath though.

Just returned from the range and shooting the new Tommy. Sent 150 rounds through the tube without a hiccup. The 50rnd drum feeds flawlessly and it ejects the spent casings like 20' away! When shooting it, you can feel and hear the massive bolt cycling inside the receiver but there is very little or even no recoil. From the hip, I was shooting 3 and 4 round volleys and hitting a 12x12 target consistently at 50'. I like it!

It sure turned some heads at the range too. Lots of folks had to stop to admire it and lots of envious eyes. I think she's a keeper.
