I painted all of mine. You need an airbrush.

Had a guy do mine. Cop/part-time gunsmith. He charged me 50 bux. I would be willing to try it myself. For those of you that have done it yourself, what all is involved (other than using an airbrush)?

The .38 and XD I parkerized before painting, the others I just cleaned real good, with acetone before painting, also roughened up the smooth spots with a fine sand paper.

Is there any need/benefit to sandblasting what you are going to paint? I have access to a parts blaster that is a kick in the pants to use.

Most of the sites recommend sand blasting in order to give the paint a better grip on the surface. I didn't have access to a sandblaster so I parkerized.

AGalindo,
Thanks. I may need to start shopping for an airbrush, then.

How are things in Alpine? I'm originally from Odessa and love the west Texas Mountains. I'm hoping to make a trip back to Big Bend soon.

It's been nice an cool, same old same old I guess. Nice to hear from someone who knows where Alpine is. I use a Wally World model airplane air brush for my painting. The canned air is a pain and kinda expensive, I've heard some air brush guys use air tanks, CO2 tanks etc... instead.

Helps a great deal !!!

I don't know how many of you are AR15.com folks, but there is a guy on there with the handle "stang1", and his stuff is incredible .
You can find him in the Armory section under refinishing - picture thread. Worth a look .

Anyway, he gave me a DC mix-list for multicam and gave me some good pointers. He said to blast the polymer parts as well as the metal ones. Use 100 psi with 100 grit aluminum oxide.

Got my airbrush at Hobby Lobby. Lady working the art dept. GAVE me a $50.00 off coupon, so I stepped up a bit on the brush I choose.

Keep us posted on yer progress.
