I use 147s because they carry just a bit more energy to the target and don't need a lot of speed to do it. Recoil is very mild.

It can be. There is some proof in very light loads that the primer cups don't seal. Can cause breech face erosion. Small rifle aren't any hotter but the cup itself is much harder. I have found the load that works for my gun without any problem. I also use them in my Major 40, 38Super, and 223 so it saves me some money.

I am thinking about reloading. How much money, componets and all around knowledge is required to start? Because I know nothing. I have looked on Dillon's site because I heard they are the best. You said you have the 550?

Looks like you have been pretty busy!
I loaded 1000 one after noon after I added the case feeder to my 550 and WOW!

I also have been known to use small rifle primers in my .40 loads and done so with no less than 10,000 of them without a single problem. I think they work great and seemed to make a more consistent load with certain powders.

For those asking, the 550 is one of the most versatile loading machines around. It will handle all pistol and rifle calibers and you can change between them in a matter of minutes. I added a case feeder and upped the load rate by quite a bit.

Like Itchy I have used over 10,000 in the past 2 years. No problems other than a few that just never went off. Those were straight duds, nice big dimple and no bang.

I do have a RL550B to be exact. It is a great press and will run you about 395$ in the caliber of your choice(comes with dies if you buy direct from Dillon). You will need a good scale(digital is best) and that can run from 50$-200$ depending on the model. I have Pact BBKII which is more trouble than good so i pitched it and UPGRADED to the RCBS Chargemaster Combo. I use that for exacting rifle loads as well as a scale. That runs high at about 270$.

Starting off is not that big of a deal you just need some basic info. The ABC's of reloading is a great book for beginners and will get you started right. Buy the book now and start learning while you save up for the Dillon.

a good one to start with is the lee anniversery set. its not great but you will learn everything on that and i got my press with everything except dies for 69.99 its a great way to find out weather or not reloading is for you. and i really like it its alot of fun not like work at all. so i will be getting a progressive one of these days.
